I was just curious about this one.
What's ALFA's ruling on a cleric's god's favored weapon? PnP rules say that the cleric is automatically proficient in that particular weapon. Or, it is just pretty much accepted that if the weapon is martial or exotic, the feats have to be used in order to use it?
Just for future reference. It never mattered with my current PC Olin because he has War domain, plus a level of fighter anyway. But, say for a dwarf cleric of Moradin. The whole religion is based around the forge, hammer and anvil, etc. yet the cleric is not proficient with a hammer to start.

Sci-FI,
In 3.0/3.5, they are not automatically proficient with their deity's favored weapon, even in pen and paper.
Being automatically proficient was a change Pathfinder made.

Re: Favored weapons
SSM correct.
That said, no one says a cleric of Moradin couldn't use a hammer as a tool. Warhammers are a completely different thing than a hammer used in a forge. If said cleric would like to use a smithing tool to bash folks brains out, in PnP he could do that as a non-proficient weapon use at -4 to hit with a full on warhammer, or just use a regular set of forge tools as an improvised weapon for probably much less damage.
Or fight with a barstool since he is probably drunk in a gutter anyhow.

Oh okay my bad. I misread the PnP rule online.
