Infra issue: loading a forum avatar

So i'm trying to load this as my forum avatar:



but i keep getting the message:
Image file type mismatch: expected extension png but extension jpg given.

Do avatars only work in png format? ((having trouble getting mediafire to 'host' a png file...seems to auto convert to the jpg extention))

Some of them are craggy, instead of cliffs, in fairness! Maybe it would be a terrible slip down loose rocks, bouncing off of firmer outcroppings until dropping into the water unable to swim (what with having just been an elf plinko)
