Curious if the gambling tables in this mod have been looked at with possible ALFA inclusion. The download has a MP folder for builders. I've played it some and it looks and games great! We would have to decrease the bet amounts to reflect our low-level setting though.

Not sure it integrates actual gambling, but TSM at the least does have poker tables in one of the Silverymoon taverns.

I think Skaug has a table or somesuch.

Gambling is tricky due to exploitation concerns that need to be addressed, I'd pass the link off to tech if I were you, along with the name of one or more tech inclined person to lead the integration efforts, if you really want this in ALFA.

I would be willing to pay scripters real money, to make Texas Holdem for NWN2, and get it in any server for PCs to play.

Funniest part is, my current PC would never ever play. But...for the future, like in 2023 or so when i retire my current PC, i'd absolutely make a gambler for TH.

If Texas Holdem was in, hell i might even temp retire (*shudders at the thought*), to make a degenerate gambler who sleeps under the poker table......

Player to player gambling, which I guess those "poker tables" permit, no one tends to have a problem with that I've ever heard of. Group of PCs, their money shifting around each other = who cares.

Player vs. "engine" gambling, where gold comes out of nowhere (the NPC universe...), that's where ALFA has a bit of a patchy history. We've had systems in place in NWN1 where there seemed to be a "house" disadvantage which could be pushed over time. That is, the more time you invested drawing cards or saying "hit me / hold" etc. on say, variations on Blackjack, the more gold you'd eke out over time. I gather this became a pretty big problem in Sembia back in the day, walk into casino, interact with certain predictable dealers, walk out an hour later with a fortune.

Still, maybe the linked systems are "better." Even if they weren't better, I suppose safeguards could be built in to limit the number of times you could make a certain convo or script or whatever fire within say, a RL hour or day or something. Just like some repeatable statics have a cool down, if there was the potential for a gold leak on things like casino games, track it aggressively, and maybe based on either winnings or attempts for the day, have a dealer at some point say "think ye've had enough for the day" and try again later. I bet it would have something to do with setting an INT on a user, incrementing per use of the system, and if it climbs beyond a certain number, the usual dialogue options close and all you get is the "had enough for now" message.

yep Broken, all that could be done. hence my "get a tech savy person and approach tech admin about doing it" comment.

As I posted in the custom content thread, the actual new things that exist in this pack (that is, not cards or dice; we have cards and dice) do not fit in with our policies for adding custom content-- slot machines and roulette are simply too technologically advanced for Faerûn, unless someone has a specific reference to their existence in canon.

Zelk I'm not aware of whats in the haks already so thats why I'm asking.

We already have these all then? Blackjack, Texas Hold'em, Seven Card Stud, Five Card Draw, and Craps are all implemented with full 4 player multiplayer tables.

How about the hidden lock and the vault lock UI that also seems quite an awesome addition?

Modern tumbler locks are also 19th century material.

Which is why I'm asking for specific references in canon.

Here's your specific canon reference: Gnomes & Gond! ;-)

I personally could care less about the nifty tumbler lock feature. Roullette I can do without as well, and I thought the slot machines were lame. It's the "Blackjack, Texas Hold'em, Seven Card Stud, Five Card Draw, and Craps are all implemented with full 4 player multiplayer tables" I'm more interested in.

Gnomes and Gond are still using matchlocks and struggling with the concept of the flywheel in the Age of Discovery. I don't think we can pretend that they're centuries ahead of their time in everything when they are demonstrably centuries behind on some things. I need a specific reference to the specific technology employed, or a credible real world source that says it existed during the Age of Discovery (except for firearms, which were much more advanced then than they are in Faerûn, but I have specific canonical references that say so), to include it in the haks.

And we have playing cards already; this would open up more games, sure, but that would be a significant workload for a frankly minor enhancement to a system that people rarely use. Maybe someone will feel inspired and take it up-- but I wouldn't make plans based on it, and might try playing the poker we have some more. Developers like to feel like their work will get used.

It's a system I'd use and one worth advertising to the NWN2 roleplaying community. I'd much rather roleplay a card gambler than a postal worker.

Here is a list of some games mentioned by Ed:
Here's the list (which doesn't have the Aurora's ones) that I've posted before:

Card games: Archers, Chase the Dragon*, High Dragon, Old Wizard, Smashcastle, Strikedragon/Battles, Swords, Swords and Shields, talis card games

Dice games: thabort, Traitors’ Heads, Wheel-of-Spells*

Board games: chess and variants (lanceboard), chethlachance, fiveknights, lancers and lions, shirestone

Other games: jacks, shove-skittles, tag, Toss the Dagger

* might be mixed up as to which is card, which dice

Roulette, slots, etc are right out.

Note that "texas hold em" is not in the list but 'poker' is referenced -- I would expect something simple if anything.

Anyway all the servers presently DO have player-player card games so you can play as you please.

As far as NPC games, it can probably be added but expect simple things, along the lines of spinning wheels or rolled dice.
