I keep looking for good FR novels....(quite rare product, IMHO)

Some of the good ones i've read :

Azure Bonds, Elfshadow, Elfsong, first Moonshaes Trilogy, few of the Drizzt books.

Some of the worst ones :

Pool of Radiance , The Twilight Giants, most of books about Elminster.

So....any suggestions of something worth reading?

I liked The Cleric Quintet a lot.

I read it in French however so I have no idea if it's well written in English.

Yes, the game made me develop high hopes from the book.....which was a joke.

The game itself was awesome and i still play it once in a while.

The war of the spider queen series left me happy enough. Warning though I was only 18 when I read it so I might have thought it was all cool because of "drow!" ;)

My favorites were all of the Erevis Cale series (my favorite FR character)

otoh, I was unable to complete the Elminster books due to boredom.

There were good forgotten realm books? This is news to me.

I'll admit to being a sucker for FR novels, and though I've read some terrible ones there were quite a few good books/trilogies/series as well. My top recommendations would be:

* The Avatar Series
* The Year of Rogue Dragons Series
* The Finder's Stone Trilogy
* The City of Splendors: A Waterdeep Novel

There are more I thought were good as well, but those stick out best in my memory.

Truly the worst I ever read had to have been Once Around the Realms, there were parts which physically hurt me after reading them. A close follow-up would be the Baldur's Gate trilogy (based off the games, did NOT do them justice!) and pretty much anything else written by Philip Athans.

I'm currently reading Prince of Lies which I am *loving*

I've not read many of them at all, but other ones I read were Darkwalker on Moonshae which I enjoyed (and where I got Finellen's name from) as well as the first two of the Cormyr series: Cormyr (enjoyed, though it alternated between sections of book I liked and sections I didn't... perhaps Ed Greenwood bits vs Jeff Grubb bits?), Beyond the High Road (not so great).

I read one terrible one and by read I mean I picked it up forced my way through maybe 10 pages then abandoned it. I have no idea what it was called but I think it was set in Calimshan.

I don't read FR novels in general. But Prince of Lies might turn me around :-D

My current Team:
(Fighter, Fighter, Cleric, Thief, Thief, and the sickly green skinned chap with the pink dress and pink pointy hat would be my Magicuser...of course)...

Heh ;) that toon looks almost like the manga toons we start to see in BG with pink , purple and yellow hair....

Anyhow, good trick in the beginning of the game is to hire "Hero" (4th level fighter) from the town hall, then attack and kill him during one of the encounters(they are evil scums anyhow), you'll get +1 plate and two handed sword which you can sell to buy stuff for the rest of the group, repeat the process until all the group is set ;)

Also , you can edit the abilities of the characters with hex editor to raise them up to 25(.dat files), leave constitution at 19 because once you get manual of tome you can raise it to 20 and get regeneration, make the game somewhat easier.

Talking about stats , it's still funny to see how chauvinistic ad&d 1st ed. was....with female limitation of strength score, max strength for female elf was 17??? lol.

Most of them are pretty dreadful, but full of good fluffy information for DMs running the Realms. I'd say my least favorite was probably The Alabaster staff... My favorites are probably the first few Erevis Cale novels.
