I'd like to have a very frank discussion with our player base to see if (1) you really want to play by the rules or (2) just pretend to play by the rules when you are on the forums and do whatever you please in game...including self looting, combat logging, etc....I'm not talking about fine distinctions on a rule we had to alter to make NWN2 fit DnD, I'm talking about all out full blown cheating.
When I see a pile of posts about DMs "not trusting players" in this forum it irks me when I compare what's said to our server logs.
This thread is not directed at the majority of players who follow the rules, but the one thing that turns DMs away is player cheating, so knock it off as this is damaging all of us.

Okay, I'm confused. What kind of a discussion are you aiming at here? We all know breaking the rules is bad.Castano wrote:the one thing that turns DMs away is player cheating, so knock it off as this is damaging all of us.

<Castano>: danielnm - can you blame them?
<danielmn>: Yes,
<danielmn>: Easily.

Essentially, hollyfant, Castano wasn't having a discussion at all -- it was more of a manner to blow off steam, at least that's how I see it. There's nothing that can actually be discussed with how his structure went from the opening sentence to his final statements.hollyfant wrote:Castano wrote:I'd like to have a very frank discussion with our player base to see if (1) you really want to play by the rules or (2) just pretend to play by the rulesOkay, I'm confused. yep mags you got it...lock please.
there is no need to discuss...just that alot of our members do not see server logs, dispute forum etc. so they assume we are being jerks for no reason.

Re: Rules & Trust
I think if you check logs, and actually see it happening, send a PM to the one who broke the rules, and simply state: "The server logs have shown you looted your own corpse 2 times. This is a core rule of ALFA with more than one if not very many warnings against this practice. Please stop or you might be formally warned, suspended, or your membership terminated."
I think players have a vague idea/feeling that they cannot be caught, so they do stuff... if anyone got a warning PM for it, I know I would never ever do anything "again" if I had a DM send me a PM stating that they know it happened, and I might get a warning, suspension or ban.
I think Bu ran from Nashkel to Beregost once.
It was a long walk, and I think I wanted to log out, but not in Nashkel. So he sucked it up, took off his armor, and ran it. I was alone on the server, and would have never done it ever if another PC was on the server same time. I felt bad about it after so consider it a self-warning.
I would never self-loot, and never EVER combat log. And the way I play is the diametrical opposite of Powergaming... so much so that quite often Bu refuses going out into the wilds when it does not suit his mood, or seems "unwise" to do so, which is most times, even with DM sessions running, many times he's just not gone with groups who ask him to go, and he's never gone out if the "plan" was brought to him that whoever was asking "just wants to go hunt", or "Go kill monsters", etc. That's just plain dumb

If there have been more issues Castano, let me know and I will take action.
