Re: track
It increases the range and type of creatures you can detect on the minimap, based on how high your Survival is.
Or did you mean in PnP?

No, in NWN2. You wouldn't happen to know which creature types it adds, and how far the range is extended would you?SwordSaintMusashi wrote:Or did you mean in PnP?

Re: track
All creature types, and its a variable range depending on your Survival. The higher it is, the further it goes. I know a fairly high level ranger can track just about anything hostile on the mini-map (except for stealthed creatures, which is covered by Scent).

Re: track
From my experience with it, without Track, you can only see beasts and vermin on the minimap.

Re: track
My character sees goblinoids just fine, without Track. But I couldn't see a shadow.SwordSaintMusashi wrote:From my experience with it, without Track, you can only see beasts and vermin on the minimap.
Time to go do some testing.

Re: track
Yes, thinking on it, I could see goblins too sometimes. So maybe it includes humanoids? Sounds like testing might be the best idea.

Re: track
Tam has Track and very high survival and the only hostiles I can't see on the minimap are DM possessed ones; not sure about Hiding creatures - never seen any! (I can be 'tracking' the movements of a Hostile and it would suddenly vanish the moment a DM possesses it, and it would reappear on the radar when possession is ended. A pretty nasty inconsistency.) The detection range is currently somewhat vast, most if not all of an exterior. It's a bloody life-saver and a very useful tool for an outdoorsy type to have IMO.

Re: track
Yeah, hidden creatures cannot be detected through Survival unless you also have the Scent feat (only Gray Orcs get it, which sucks). I have the feat on a few other NWN2 servers, and it shows all hostiles if they are spawned on a map and I come within range (which as Tam said, can be quite vast).

Re: track
But I still think that PCs without the track feat can see MOST hostiles in ALFA as I know with my non-tracking PCS I could see orcs, goblinoids, vermin, and even animals. So, honestly, what does that leave for those of us who are actual trackers?

Re: track
Elementals, outsiders, undead, oozes, contructs, dragons, giants, fey...and the list of creature types continues.
All the things listed fall into 3 categories: humanoids (goblins, bugbears, humans, elves, etc), vermin, and animals.

since we are an RP community...Track gives you the ability to use the NWN2 system RPwise to see creatures. Joe the no track warrior should not be yelling out "look 300 yards yonder behind those rocks and bushes there be orcs" but you can.
My wizard for example ignores the minimap unless the critters are close by. How close is a judgment call, but you will find few if any Alfans abusing the minimap when they lack the feat.

If you use the "track" feat, RP hostiles on the mini-map as if tracking.Survival (Wis)
You can keep yourself and others safe and fed in the wild. The table below gives the DCs for various tasks that require Survival checks.
Survival does not allow you to follow difficult tracks unless you are a ranger or have the Track feat (see the Restriction section below).
Joe the Ranger: "Hmmmm *kneels down and inspects the underbrush* Look at how many of these duskwood branches are snapped. And with these four toed prints I'd suspect at least four gnolls passed this way."
Absent the track feat but with a survival skill I would also endorse *not* RPing hostiles seen on the mini-map. At the very least use "listen" (when not in visual range) and/ or "spot" checks to see if you really notice them.
