Thanks to the people who updates the forums. Seems I can use this now, without being kicked to automagically log out every few minutes :D

Good for you.

It seems for others it's the contrary. They are now being logged out automatically from time to time while before it worked like a charm.

Ah well complex computer systems are always full of bugs anyway :(

Looks like I do have to click the cookie deleter everytime, or it behaves funny. First try couldn't log in at all, second try made the forums go silver-style and loose "embeddability". Seems to work like a charm by clicking the cookie deleter every time coming in, though. Hope this might help you swat some bugs.

just fyi -

before i would stay logged in on my pc using firefox, may be had to relog once a week or something. at work on mac using safari i got kicked out within minutes. sometimes couldn't write a pm or forum post...

now safari works fine on mac, i get logged out on pc with firefox however. although it does keep session alive until i close browser window.

I'll try to look at this asap but if it's different for every person it's very hard to reproduce so I'm not sure I'll find a solution.

my best guess is that it's how different browsers handle cookie expiration dates... or sessions are used until you close browser window?

Been using the /phpBB3 link since time immemorial, and Opera as browser. Never had any issues. *knocks on wood*

Direct link to forums that does not invoke the rest of the website. Try it and see if you still have cookie issues? Login is at the bottom.

People still having problems with the website/forum update should try manually clearing their cookies.

This is presented in detail for several web browsers here:

I just noticed that horrible YOU HAVE A NEW PRIVATE MESSAGE message isn't popping up any more these days. Thank you Hialmar! That was one of the most annoying things ever - the number of posts that got lost through that... grrrr.

As a side note, I'm officially adding Hialmar to my computers dictionary. I'm getting fed up of it telling me it isn't a word.

Ah maybe I forgot to re-enable that.

If no-one asks for it I won't re-enable it.

If some do we'll have a poll.

Edit: looks like it is enabled. There is a bug somewhere.

Well there seems to be a pop-up window now which says you have a new message, instead of it taking you to a totally new page. I disabled pop-ups for ALFA because it's just annoying to me, but it's nowhere NEAR as annoying as that business with it taking you to a whole new page just to say you have a new PM.

Ah maybe they modified it to that.

I have noted that since I changed the destination address of forums@alandfaraway.org to point to mine instead of zic's I now receive again e-mails to warn me that I have new PMs.

Is it the same for everyone ?

Note: the option to receive e-mails when new PMs are sent to you is in your "User Control Panel" ("Notify me on new private messages" in "Board Preferences").
