Knowledge (Persistent Worlds)

Looking for a few people to help me get in contact with (or at least point me in the direction of) other Persistent Worlds who have similar philosophies as us, in hopes of opening some forum of discussion and try and bond in some ways there.

I've pulled up an old list, from way back when, and copied it below. I'm sure most of the stuff is out of date, but if anyone has anything to add, I'd love to hear from you.

Haze

http://www.nwn2haze.com

General Description

NWN2 Haze is poised to be the defining element in hardcore roleplay for Neverwinter Nights 2. As a re-imagining of the Hall of Fame awarded Haze, developed by members of the same team and with an additional two years of experience, it will deliver the same strictly enforced high-impact, high-intensity Forgotten Realms roleplay experience.

Employing permanent death and a huge number of custom systems and tweaks, NWN2 Haze offers a whole new kind of gritty, immersive, edge-of-your-seat roleplay that other servers can't deliver. Through a talented team of Dungeon Masters and bold ideas, NWN2 Haze is a world that rewards good roleplay with great fun, and gives characters the opportunity to conquer or fall by their own actions.

Platform

NWN2(MoTB) - Currently in Open Beta

Relative Size

Currently list 550 registered players, I was seeing ~20 on the server during evenings EST.

Number of Servers

What Makes It Unique?

They are very much dedicated to putting roleplay ahead of everything else. Level progression is slow and caps at 5. Immersion and persistency are design features. They have carved themselves a very unique setting as all players begin by being washed ashore on a mysterious island and start over from scratch, no matter what their character's background. My description is not doing them justice, so best to check their website as they have crafted their phrases thoughtfully.
I know Haze has gone under. If anyone has any further info on other worlds, or these ones listed (such as how similar they are to us), I'd love to hear!

I could contact Avlis if so wished, I know a couple peeps (including leadership / staff), have been at one of their meetings in Warsaw and still log in occasionally.

It's... not a world with a philosophy similar to ours, however ;). They also still rely on NWN 1 (which I personally quite like).

Still, establishing some contact to share info about troublemakers or tackle tech ideas might work out to be helpful.

I'd be glad to leave the job to someone else with more time though.

Cheers,

Yeah, my understanding too. I just was lazy and pulled an old list of other RP PWs that Wynna had compiled.

Would love to help, but no idea what the ALFA philosophy is.
What a player sees IG and cruising around a forum is very different from how it actually works behind the curtain.

If you hum a few bars, might be able to help, though.

[16:23] <javajutsu> The maturity of the DMs; the friendly, cooperative culture of the players; the emphasis on communal roleplay and thoughtful character development -- as opposed to WoW-style "clear the caves", or obsession with static quests, or fixation on big dicks and big tits, or whatever.

I don't know any perfect fits. I do know several potential "worth talking to's," however:

ToM's a bad match for you, then -- the player RP is great and their staff is helpful. But they're fundamentally built around characters partying up for static quests, which are level-and-number-determinate, as opposed to player-DM interaction. (Built a couple areas for these guys -- for the most part they're REALLY nice people, but 99.44% of the play is built around those static quests, and the staff has actively resisted repeated player requests/volunteers to add in DM staff). On the other hand, Hexadecimal over there does some neat scripting (like secret doors that don't show up on mouseover), and might be willing to swap tricks.

Similarly, Realms of Trinity is as "static-based" as it gets -- but the DM and playerbase is almost ridiculously friendly and eager to help folks, generally speaking. Worth building contacts with even if there's not a lot both groups can immediately offer each other. Have had limited DM contact, was amazed at the player helpfulness... I don't do much there for playstyle reasons, but heartily recommend them as folks worth talking to.

So far as staff is concerned, Pain over at DungeonEternal2 would be a good contact. Dex2 is a **completely** different gaming concept, but Pain's got a proven history of building bridges and being pro-community... if you're looking to bounce ideas off folks, it'd be silly not to talk with him.

The 7th House at World of Charun may or may not be willing to swap stuff... he tends to be of the old-school "keep your work hidden and special" school. But they're friendly, and have a cooperative (albeit non-FR) DM-and-playerbase. They're sort of the exact opposite of ToM: no static quests AT ALL... but also no xp just for wandering around or verbally rp'ing. Which means that a character who's going for the "expee cookie" can easily find himself doing some serious grinding to the detriment of rp.

There are some others who are technically brilliant, but seem to have intentionally taken CHA as their dump-stat... off the top of my head, those are folks I'd reach out to.

+1

In fact, Pain, aka brianmeyerpain, already makes periodic appearances in #alfa-builders, and has enlisted us to contribute to The Citadel School of Persistent World Building (see former LA Wynna's News Item). He's a big help to the entire NWN2 community.
