Hey all,
Anyone using an apple laptop to play NWN2? If so how's that working out, and any advice on which one to get?
Also, any other suggestions for an out of the box solution that is hassle free as far as lap-tops and NWN2 goes? I have a Dell that should be able to handle it but I seem endlessly mired in inane problems with Vista and other software.
Thanks,
Regas

Re: Apple's for NWN2?
what problems are you having man?
I use a Dell also, and run windows 7 64bit with NWN2 no problems at all. If you outline the issues you've had. either me or someone else here should be able to help.

Re: Apple's for NWN2?
If you already have the PC version of NWN2 & the expansions the easiest solution is to install the PC version on your Apple laptop via Cross Over Games in Mac OS X or, if you will be installing Windows, to use bootcamp and install natively.
While there is a Mac native port of NWN 2 released by Aspyr they have not to date ported the expansions. I'm currently wrestling with an attempt to install the PC expansions over the Mac version of the game but this is proving problematic. While MtB seems to play nicely SoZ is proving difficult and I can't currently recommend that option.
Regarding performance if you're looking at a new MacBook Pro then you won't have any issues. I've noticed comments on the Bioware forum for NWN2 Mac stating that the 320M runs things nicely.
In summary the best out of the box option at the moment is to install the PC versions via Cross Over or bootcamp it. If Aspyr actually get round to porting the expansions I will come back and edit my responses as a native solution is always easiest/best however until then my comments stand.
I hope this answers your questions - but if not I'll be checking back later

Re: Apple's for NWN2?
I have Linux installed on my laptop as a stop gap to re-installing an operating system (Ubuntu) as a stop gap to re-installing an operating system . Is there any way to run NWN2 properly on this os? If so, how much of a techie do I need to be to make it work? By the way, I'm amazed at this OS, it works like a charm on my pc so far.

I know LoneWolf (GSID: SpaceJackel) had been running NWN2 on a Linux box for some time - he was using Wine, IIRC. Haven't seen him around lately, but he might respond to a PM.Regas wrote:I have Linux installed on my laptop as a stop gap to re-installing an operating system (Ubuntu) as a stop gap to re-installing an operating system . Re: Apple's for NWN2?
From what I heard, Wine runs NWN2 just fine.

yes...yes it does. Basically for setup, if you go to WINE HQ and search for NWN2. Here are some links with helpful information on setup. Notes from a pm I sent someone else for setting it up.
Well, we are running ubuntu karmic at the moment, currently with 1.1.41. When I was setting it up, I pretty much followed the configuration guides on winehq for nwn2. I originally setup around version 1.1.11 or 13. Had some wine issues around 1.1.34, but they got fixed quickly.

This is a the page from winehq for general setup. Had to add some dll's and tweak a few registry settings in wine (performance and setting up the NWN update feature for patches from obsideon).
here is another guide I have used before.

Take a look and let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Apple's for NWN2?
one other note, the toolkits for nwn/nwn2 are iffy at best currently with wine. If you want to do that, give a virtual machine a try. I havent' played with it much, myself yet.
