Level 5 - a high levelErran wrote:I hate to rain on your parade old chum, but I have it on good authority that ~ 80% of bios submitted to ALFA are based on 'my family was killed by orcs'

On Death'm sorry to say that levelling is a very slow process in ALFA. Roleplaying is needed to gain experience, as well as killing monsters. The other thing to keep in mind is the horrendous death rate of characters in ALFA. I've gone through at least 6 characters myself already!
I've only had one character reach level 2...And I've been playing since it went live. I have however, seen pc's as high as 5th level...But I have no idea how they did it!

Most of my characters last for several weeks.I'd not enjoy having to start from scratch so frequently. I guess I invest too much into my characters to let them go so easily.
The thing is, with ALFA you soon look at everything as a challenge and a risk. In any encounter your character could die (if not, then you need to move on to other encounters and stop camping). Every situation has some risk. To me that makes it not only more exciting, but I also put much more effort into my characters, and I take very good 'care' of them. The more I invest in them, the more I work at keeping them alive, as well as more interesting to me and other players. As a result, my characters tend to survive most of the time.

Last but not least...Blackthorn TA wrote:Oh, one more thing I found out recently is that you'll never find anything really good for sale from merchants. No Boots of Speed, no items with DR, nothing of more than +2 enchantment, nothing with more than +2 to any ability score, nothing with more than +5 in any combination of skills (though that's pretty decent at least from my perspective), nothing with immunity to anything, nothing with more than 25% resistance, etc., etc. I guess fighter types have to rely on the DMs or friendly magic-using characters for any kind of power. At least thieves can purchase and use scrolls etc. with the Use Magical Device skill.

ALFA will be live as of 12.01 AM, April 15. Prior to this, for a period of time, all servers will be down. During this time the vault will be wiped. At midnight PST (GMT -8), servers will be brought online and will be considered live.
Our current stage of development requires that we go live, but all players should be aware that we are not done. Things may yet have to change, and we apologize if this causes inconvenience to you. We’ve done our best in the time we’ve had to prepare as well as we can.
