Herb/healing kits

Post by johnlewismcleod »

It's been so long since I've played PnP, that I admit my memory of healing/herb kits is a bit foggy...but isn't one supposed to get a healing check with these for a chance to cure disease and increased rate of healing during rest?

When in doubt, SDR is your friend.

Various incarnations of 'heal kits' are from nwn1, not pnp. AFAIK there's no such thing in pnp core books unless it's in one of a myriad of supplements I don't know about. FRCS iirc has a few herbs listed that do provide some bonuses to various skill checks and abilities temporarily; we had some of these on several alfa1 servers but they do take work to put in.

Now, as far as increased rate of healing (long term care), and using the heal skill for higher chance to treat disease, etc. yes, that is from pnp, and you don't need any special kits to make these attempts, although alfa had various items that provided a boost (similar to the masterwork heal kits we have currently) I do miss the 'medicine bag/bandages' we had that could be used for pnp style long term care and poison/disease treatment from the HCR/ACR that we had in alfa1. Perhaps at some point down the road? We could probably lift HCR2's code for it without too much tweaking I'd imagine for our use.

I hoped I remembered correctly...so my question is this: If the healing kits and herb pouches aren't useful for this...How does one use healing skill to cure disease or mitigate poison? :chin:

I've actually spent some embarrassing amounts of gametime pursueing this and haven't yet figured it out

For now, you would need DM assist (with the DM casting the appropriate Cure/Neutralize spell) to accomplish disease/poison curing with the Heal skill. Scripted curing is one of many features we intend to include, but do not yet have implemented. If someone with basic programming/scripting experience wants to take a stab at it, they're welcome to let me know, and we'll get something going. Otherwise, it's another thing in a long list of projects for down the line at some point. Apologies for any inconvenience this causes.
