LA Questions

Post by Rotku »

Okay, Dobs. It has to be done, so let the questions begin.

(1) What do you view the role of Lead Admin as?

(2) As a big part of the LA position relates to the Charter, have you read and understood it?

(3) How do you feel about ALFA's governing structure? Do you feel there is room for improvement? Would you be looking at any such changes?

(4) What's your current relationship with the other Admin and HDMs, and how do you feel you will work with them?

(5) The majority (if not all) your platform revolves around PR work. How would it vary from what you currently do? Do you feel the strategy that you and Faeryl have going at the moment could be reworked at all?

(6) You've only been in ALFA since NWN2 days. Do you feel this gives you any disadvantage?

Okay, Dobs. It has to be done, so let the questions begin.

(1) What do you view the role of Lead Admin as?
My view of lead admin, is to similar to that of the chairman of the board. Such a position is all about keeping things moving, ensuring that ALFA as a communtiy continues and grows foward. It is also like the glue between the major parts, ensuring that the other Admins are able to do thier jobs effectivly with support where required.
(2) As a big part of the LA position relates to the Charter, have you read and understood it?
In a word, Yes. I went over the charter carefully before deciding to run for Lead, as I wanted to be sure I could handle the job, also to be sure it was a job that I wanted to take on. I believe it is clear and simple to use, which is key to its existance.
(3) How do you feel about ALFA's governing structure? Do you feel there is room for improvement? Would you be looking at any such changes?
I have seen it written, that ALFA is in its most Drama free season ever, I would not like to break that. As of now I dont have any reason to change the structure, though there are systems in place that I would like to see formalised into procedures. I think we can do some things better than we do now, with use of PM boxes addressed to specific request locations. For example a PM box for Issues for change, a PM box for Applications for PrC, and Special Race/Classes. Added to these id like to see a clear procedure for assesing and replying.
(4) What's your current relationship with the other Admin and HDMs, and how do you feel you will work with them?
Currently as PR head, I have directly worked with Player, DM and to a lesser extent Tech Admins. I have not had too much to do with Infra, but I would be very happy if the current Administrators were in place at the end of my term.
Personally I believe that the Administrators are doing a great job and I will certianly be seeking advice and insight from them before making any decisions that effect ALFA.
As i mentioned earlier, my role will be as chairman, afforting the other heads the respect they deserve as if they we re directiors of a board.
(5) The majority (if not all) your platform revolves around PR work. How would it vary from what you currently do? Do you feel the strategy that you and Faeryl have going at the moment could be reworked at all?
The PR is only apart of what I am about, though i will certianly be continuing it(hopefully through staff if possible). The rest of my platform will be about looking for the little things, attention to detail, that help with immersion. There are a few points I have that I want to discus with DM admin, but is inaproperate for this forum. There are others that Tech are allready working on, like the effect of non leathal damage on creatures morale, and others that are still bouncing around that i need to flesh out before presenting for discussion.
(6) You've only been in ALFA since NWN2 days. Do you feel this gives you any disadvantage?
No, not in the slightest. My heart is in ALFA, in fact, i have only 3 games installed that I play and NWN2 ALFA is by far the majority. I am not new to roleplaying, not new to NWN or NWN2, while I didnt play NWN on ALFA, I was playing on other servers. I think it gives me an insight to what other PW's have done, which allows me to try to introduce the bettter aspects of those places into ALFA. Another thing I dont have is any pre concieved ideas about what ALFA should or should not be. ALFA is simply about the people who donate their time to making it the best it can be. ALFA is not a set of serves, or a website, it is a community.

Look what ALFA has come to! When an LA can stand without hords of questions, flames and debates... it's almost like people are enjoying playing the game instead of ALFA politiking.

Anyway, one further question sorry dobs.

One of the powers the LA possesses is that of Veto over the other Admins. In what cases can you see this power been used? In the past, I can recall a handful of occasions it has indeed been employed, but I am curious to see in what situations you would use it.

Sparingly, if ever.

I will not in good concience, Veto any decision by an Admin on any sort of personal or individual grounds.

I think the only time would be in a instance where a decision by an Admin had effects upon another domain, and the second Admin put foward a case as to why the decision should be reversed. But even in such an instance I would call together all Admin for discussion prior to taking such an action.

The reason for this, is that Head Admins need to be able to make decisions without fear of interfearing. They are elected heads after all.

Thanks to all for the votes of confidence. I feel happy we can keep this ship afloat and on course for another six months at least.

I would like to re affirm my intentions for the next six months
 Maintain the Drama status at the all time low, ALFA is working like a well oiled machine thanks to the efforts of all.
 Look at ways to improve on what we have, I believe the answer to this lies in the little things rather than big sweeping changes
 Ensure the focus of ALFA remains on creating an immersive environment for players, by ensuring everyone involved in that has what they need to do so.

Thanks ALFA for placing your trust in me.

What is your stance on beards?
“In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.” - Open Message to the Executive Branch.

Who stands on beards? That's rude to the dwarves.
The power of concealment lies in revelation.
