Going to play this as soon as I can.

Been having trouble getting ahold of it, though. Local stores didn't have it on the day of release and didn't bother opening their shipment the day after.

I dunno where Thangs got 8 days from. I think it's December 4th here as well.

Apparently people have been having problems with this and Direct2Drive, so I wouldn't recommend using that.

It's alright so far, but story hasn't hooked me, though enjoying the conversation system somewhat.

Oh, and difficulty is somewhat harder.

First impressions:
Swashbuckler is basically useless in the early stages of the campaign (and unless they have some hidden uberness, probably a bit below the balance curve for the entire game) as are the ECL races unless you get the right synergy of race/class in your builds..
I made a human swashie, a yuan-ti priest of leira, a grey orc barb and a air genasi mage.. the ecl heaviness is probably what has made it so tough though actually.. I've had a lot of TPKs, mainly from world map encounters I couldnt get away from..

Picking your own chars is pretty sweet but I kinda miss the interaction with the NPCs.. the chultan d00rad and his pet dinosaur are pretty uber though.

Encounter system on the world map is pretty cool but they come thick and fast.. tone that down it would be awesome and I can see how it could work in ALFA.. you kinda need the encounters to stay ahead of the game in coin though. They could probably give you less xp and more gold though and it would work out nice for game balance..

New crafting system makes it pretty easy to get magical weapons and armour straight off the bat and being able to name your own magical gear is cool..

Death system and Lack of resting spots makes the game harder and more expensive for your toons..

Its hard, but I like it..

How does it handle escaping from world map encounters? a "flee at the edge of the map" sort of mechanic, a roll before being ported to the area? Both? This was one sticky area of our homegrown system, trying to make a fair balance that was unpredictable, but not inescapable. Curious to see what the "professionals" worked out for that.

A question for people who already have the expansion: is the MotB-affecting bug mentioned here:

http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/vi ... &forum=128

pretty much universal, or fairly limited?

The quick summary, for those who aren't inclined toward reading the NWN2 boards, is that SoZ installation is apparently resulting in loss of voice overs in MotB. at least for some.

Atari's QA shines once again ...

ImpulseDrive wrote: One thing of note: Just read over on the official forums that the DD version of the expansion and latest patch breaks narration, dialogue and lip sync in the Mask of the Betrayer campaign. I've confirmed that was the case with the retail version, as well. Just for reference, my copy immediately updated itself on install.

Guess they'll need some kind of hotfix for those looking to play with the new stuff in the older campaigns. Hope they do.

John Pastor wrote: Apparently this happens to retail versions as well. I was finishing up Mask of the Betrayer, decided to install Storm of Zehir, and... that was a mistake, it seems. I guess I'll either uninstall SoZ or wait until they patch it to fix up the dialogue.

I suppose I should be sleeping, anyway, so maybe it's for the best.
Yep. All of my copies are physical discs.
prometheusbound wrote: I understand this is only if you have custom content loaded in your override directory in My Documents though; could be wrong, though.
Unfortunately not. My install is completely clean. No mods at all.

At least I've got some time for them to patch before I hit MoTB. I'm still in the middle of a game of Baldur's Gate.

How does resting work? Is there a level limit of 15 or can you keep levelling after that?
