Camera Height

It seems that some of our playerbase doesn't care for the camera height adjustment that was made in a recent hak update. I believe it was intended to make "Character Mode" more functional (where the camera follows behind the PC as it turns). Before, zooming in would obscure most of the screen with the back of the character's head. Now, the camera zooms to somewhere above the head, allowing a clearer field of view.

Personally, I play in strategy mode with the camera centered on the PC; so the camera change didn't seem as critical a change. Some members have reported the change being especially disruptive for shorter races like gnomes.

It would be very easy to swap back in the previous file and return to our old settings, but I'd prefer only to do that if a majority of people who care actually want the old settings back. I've no strong preference in the matter.

Alternatively, we could tweak the camera heights a bit more, maybe aim for an intermediate value that might please both camps. I'll throw that out as an intermediate option as well.

I'll run the poll for a week to give seldom-visiting members a chance to look.

Er, there isn't a choice for "I like the new setting"!

There isn't a choice for "I haven't really noticed and don't care."

I believe just not voting for any of the choices works fine in this case.

Well no matter where the voting leads, at least I know how to edit the camera back to the sane option.

So, is there a chance that camera height will be back to default position? For me, this quasi-FPV is completely useless, at the times quite annoying and in general ugly.

If not, can someone point me how to manualy return it to default position?

For some reason I can't cast a vote so I'll say it here. I vote for the default camera.

Camera will be returned to default in the next content update. If you really can't wait:

Use NWN2Packer v1.9 to open alfa_2da.hak.
Select appearance.2da and press the Extract button. Don't close window.
Open appearance.2da with any 2da editor. I use this one.
Find the row for your race(s) and scroll over to the Height column.
Lower the Height(s) by .8 and save.
Switch back to NWN2Packer and press the Import button. Select your modified appearance.2da.

We decided it was best if you dont vote Veilan.

Both in ALFA and for any sort of governmental arrangement in RL. The ramerfications of you imposing your will are just too horrible.

It was a 7-day poll, which seems to have come down in fairly strong favor of returning to default camera heights. I'd estimate the next 2da hak update will be in a week or so, camera heights should be returned to default at that time.

Though I hesitate to recommend it, the override folder is an option for those who want to put the camera a bit higher; though it means pulling the file back out of override before logging into non-ALFA servers, lest other graphical problems develop (like beholders/unicorns which do not draw on your screen attacking you without any ability to target them in return).

From my experience, overrides don't seem to work in this case; you must manually insert the change into the ALFA haks.

The same is true for the No Buff Effects override - I never had any results until I put them in the haks. Of course, every time you update Worldgate you will need to redo your changes.
