WorldGate for ALFA Beta Server Testing

Post by Curmudgeon »

The most recent PWC files for ALFA's NWN2 Beta servers are now available via WorldGate. You will also need the HAK and TLK files from the Live Worldgate setup or from the ALFA FTPs.

To configure your WorldGate Client for the Beta servers, click the New button to open a configuration window. Click the "from URL" button and enter the following URL in the requester:

download.alandfaraway.org/downloads/worldgate/nwn2/beta

Click OK and the configuration should be loaded. Click "test & exit" to confirm everything is as it should be.

Current Beta servers include ALFA 10 -- Baldur's Gate, and ALFA 11 -- Western Heartlands. More servers will be added as they reach Beta status.

Woohoo. Thanks, Curm. Very handy to be able to get the PWCs at the click of a button.
Enjoy the game

Who will DM these servers? The TSM DMs. . ? . . .because I've only seen Wayne doing what he does.

I've seen EWayne, Curmudgeon, Wynna, Paazin and Mishmash (I'm guessing that's who Misha is anyway) on as DMs.

Maybe they're just hiding from you? :P
Current PCs:
NWN1: Soppi Widenbottle, High Priestess of Yondalla.
NWN2: Gruuhilda, Tree Hugging Half-Orc

I'm guessing/hoping/postulating that once another server goes live more folks might have interest in DMing so they can keep a PC one place and DM another.........could be faulty logic, but we'll see.

And the key to getting DM attention is to make a custome text macro:

"/d Hey! I'm ready! Are you ready now? ........ How about now? Come on. Geez! Hurry up already!"

you can hit that macro key say every 30 seconds or so ingame....works like a charm
PCs: NWN1: Trailyn "Wayfarer" Krast, Nashkel hayseed

I don't via for DM attention, it's paramount to favoritism and that was the most annoying thing about the server I attended prior to discovering the godsend of ALFA. You would always find the players, who, despite not being involved at all, wander into a plot. I suspect that the lack of DMing on my part has primarily to do with paazin being so busy & the fact that it is a good-aligned server. Not that it matters, I'm playing on exodus and get DM attention, not to mention find players, just fine without asking for it.

Maybe I should apply to be a DM in ALFA. Couldn't hurt.

Baldurs Gate 2.00 PWC is now also available from the ALFA - Beta WorldGate setup.

Skullport PWC, too.

[edit] Added the PWC for the Moonshaes. Castano now has the test server up & running! :) [/edit]

Is there potentially a way to stop the PWCs for the beta servers downloading? IIRC last time there was a beta server using it, you pretty much had no choice about getting the files.

It could be somewhat irritating to have to run WorldGate for a small TSM update and end up spending hours downloading 600 meg of beta PWCs.

There are currently 3 "official" worldgate setups for NWN2-ALFA

Admissions Worldgate:
  • alfa_gui.hak
  • alfa_oas2.pwc

LIVE worldgate:
  • alfa_2da.hak
  • alfa_acr.hak
  • alfa_fx.hak
  • alfa_gui.hak
  • alfa_items.hak
  • alfa_placeables.hak
  • alfa_tiles.hak
  • alfa_terrains.hak
  • alfa_acr01.tlk
  • alfa003_tsm.pwc
Beta worldgate:
  • Baldur's Gate PWC
  • Moonshaes/Island Kingdom PWC
  • Skullport PWC
  • Western Heartlands PWC
So, you should no longer have to wait through massive beta server PWC downloads in order to get minor hak/Live server PWC updates. Just use the main ALFA worldgate, and you should be fine. On the other hand, if you want to Beta Test, you can get set up for all the betas in one (long) pass.

Thanks Curm.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
