Just a thought: maybe we should have a powergaming thread, in which we enter builds/combos/situations that would be overpowered in some way. That way:
  1. DMs will be better equipped to recognize powergaming.
  2. Rule amendments can be considered.
  3. We get to powergame in ALFA! Wheee! ;)
Because frankly, everything that is getting nerfed now looks woefully underpowered if anything.

Be immediately suspicious of halfling warlocks with "leaps and Bounds"...

:D

****

In PNP, be even more afraid of them if they have the "Shielded Casting" and "Battle Caster" feats...

Agreed, it could have been resolved before a server went live.
But it wasn't so to move forward, as of today's live date the classes are not included until the staff that has been working hard to get a server live has some free time to give it the attention it deserves. So let's say it is more on the back burner than disallowed for now.

We should be about adding things to the core game, not taking them away.

It is nothing but sad when we take away from what actually comes with the box.

We can't trust players to that degree. Its clear everyone would play a tiefling warlock of doom. If we want responsible players we can trust we'd need some sort of application process to get into ALFA. *nods sagely*

This is severely going against the 'Fun is Mandatory' change that has been implemented.

Yes, it could have all been sorted before live. No, it hasn't been. Whining and moaning won't magically change that. Now a server is live, attention will be turned to it.

Please, shut the hell up and just go play or something. If there is not enough in this game for you that 1 particular class or 1 particular feat change makes you weep in sorrow, then don't play.

The rest of us, meanwhile, will go ahead and enjoy ourselves despite the changes.

"Whining and moaning" won't change that, no. But as we had 2 years and stressed so much about getting stuff sorted out before we go live, I'm surprised. Multiple forums and teams, etc dedicated to preparing it and writing rules well... it's a bit surprising this was not already worked out. Of course, I think it is better that way as the direction they are going with some of this seems flawed.

An actual public discussion of these things before they are implemented, something we should be doing with all standards really, is a good if unintended idea.

Hello, everybody. My name is Vincent, and I'm a powergamer.

Hello, Vincent.

I just can't help it. I look at the numbers, the options and all I see are... well, numbers and options. Ripe for the plucking. Take this, add that... et voilá! One superduperüber druid of doom (Strongheart Halfling, max DEX, Point Blank & Rapid Shot: Two meatshields, two attacks per round at +5 to +6 with his sling, 21 AC and healing).

gasps

It's terrible. I have to start nerfing my concepts just to play (half Orc bards anyone?). So I come here. And talk about it. Talk about just how much damage a Duergar Rogue could do, with Knockdown while enlarged.

calculators are drawn and discussions start on whether Prone characters can be Sneak Attacked

So I come here. And talk about it. So that ALFA can be spared my characters whose skill at Feinting goes up with about 10 points per level... (lessee... half Elf for +2, 18 CHA = +4, warlock invocation for +6, +1 from the Tale Teller feat, +2 from Sliver Palm. Then I need Cleric for the Eagle's Splendour and the actual Feint feat. Or Fighter, and then go Bard for the skill boosts. Skill Focus: Bluff will add another few points along the way, and then... trails off

Come on, people. Share your "power gaming tips" here, so we don't have to see them IG. Openness will make ALFA-wide nerfs unnecessary.

Given that the PG high water mark is: Human straight-classed cleric with magic and good domains, and nothing that came with NWN2 is stronger than that, I think the nerfing is an overreaction. Then again, I'm playing a bard, and if they nerf bards then we'll know they've gone over the deep end for sure. :D
