Dropping Out of the Race

Post by Rick7475 »

While I appreciate all the questions and interest in my platform, Wynna running was a surprise for me (though she PM'ed me before-hand). I have given this careful thought and I feel that Wynna is a better person for LA given the committment I have made for the Silver Marches server.

As echoed by Indio re: Wynna's nomination:
"While I found myself pleasantly surprised by Rick's nominaton, and reassured by the quality of his answers, the prospect of having someone of your callibre as Lead, allowing Rick to focus on co-ordinating his server, well, it's almost too much to hope."

I feel ALFA is better served if I concentrate my efforts on getting a NWN2 server live. If Wynna takes the LA helm, I think we will be in good hands and in the words of Tom Petty: "The future is wide open!".

Hopefully some of my platform ideas will be considered, but I give my full support to Wynna and hope that she will win your condfidence as LA.

I don't know what to say. Thank you, Rick, for being willing to step into the ring. I was looking forward to the election and now I look forward to working with you into NWN2, no matter what my capacity. I was very impressed with many of your well-thought out and constructive replies to the questions and they've provided me with much to think about, as well as a parallax perspective on leadership. We look from complimentary angles at the same star.

Oh, and TSF is going to rock.
Enjoy the game

And so we gain some serious momentum as a community at last through a selfless act.

Good show Rick.

Whether you reconsider or not, Rick, I believe your conduct in this election process so far as been nothing but admirable, and so, whether you reconsider or not, I want to thank you.

Great answers with your platform. I think many of us got to know you a little better. Wynna is experienced at this position, and a quality individual, your dedication to Alfa was swinging my vote towards your camp.

I really do appreciate the PM's and responses here for support. The reason I initially ran was fear that we would not have someone strong and dedicated to take over LA. I could do it and I certainly plan to run again and next time I would go against Wynna if she wanted to run for a third term 8) But for now, the best course is to get us back on the billboards with a good NWN2 presence. In 6 months time, givertake a month, when we have a server live, the issues of planetouched, crafting, server selection, etc, will be more prevelant with the new LA elections.

I have full confidence that Wynna can steer ALFA with purpose and dedication.

Thanks again, and I'll still be here 8)

Didn't we already have a vote on planetouched? They lost.

They lost for now. The thing is, there's no clear line as to who is gonna DM in nwn2 vs. who is gonna DM in nwn1, so all DMs voted. However, since there was never any question as to whether there would be planetouched in nwn1, why should nwn1-exclusive DMs be asked and not everybody else as well? If in principle the question is whether the DMs who have to manage game with planetouched present want to do so, then only those DMing in nwn2 should vote. As we have no nwn2 live servers at all, or even to beta 3, its not reasonable to conduct such a vote at this point. The vote we just had is only a crude approximation of the desired interest group.

If in principle the question is to be put to all participants and whether the community as a whole wants them, then the vote should be put to the community as a whole. I'm not sure what principle would include nwn1-exclusive DMs but not everybody else. Either way, the vote we just ran has a potential selection bias. If we run it again with a more appropriate voter register the result may be the same, but the fact we just had one I don't feel is enough to settle the matter.

For fear this thread will turn into a planetouched run, I'll take the risk to say that my view is that it is still an issue without closure.

This is why I prefer ALFA-wide community votes on issues that will affect all of ALFA. NWN1 players and DM's have the potential to play in NWN2. We cannot confine an important issue in ALFA, any issue, to holders of temporary positions that may change next month. We are all ALFA members, with a single baseline membership no matter what temporary position we hold as Admin, DM, or staff. This single baseline membership should allow us to vote on all issues affecting gameplay. Planetouched is a gameplay issue for the future of ALFA. Every baseline member should have a vote.

Anyway, back to Faerun doggies :)

Bad, FI! Bad, FI! Who is this, "They" you speak of?
