I Can't Afford It

I can't afford any...read - ANY system to run nwn2. I don't care if it is $200.
I have real bills...the ones that keep one from being homeless, in clothing, fed, healthy, etc..not Beamer payments, college bills that my parents paid most of and I don't even use the degree, or maxed out credit cards from travelling the world.
Feel free to add your name if you also cannot afford a new system, and perhaps someone could sticky the list for everyone to refer to when they forget....again.

What possible reason would there be to sticky this? You can't afford an upgrade; fine, but what? You want the rest of us to not play NWN2 because you can't? What's the goal here?

Well, live servers won't be coming out for a few months yet.
After Christmas, prices will drop as they always do.
So, save while you can.

I pay $27 per month to Dell for my new machine.

I think the point is that NWN1 still has a viable player base many for financial reasons but nonetheless a viable player base. I think NWN1 still has a lot of life in it for those who for whatever reason can not or will not move to NWN2.

I assume his goal is to prevent being harped on for not migrating to NWN2.

I'm still not seeing the point. If we were planning to shut down NWN1, I'd see what you're getting at. But, we're not, so. ?

nobody's trying to kick anybody out of nwn1. nobody's trying to give anybody a hard time cuz they don't want to upgrade, let alone can't. not sure why yer scolding people.

How about something more productive than hostility... most people upgrade when they need new hardware, not because there's something wrong with the old. We could get together a list of spare parts donations. Some people should be tossing out hardware that can run NWN2 at minimal specs by now, we might be able to help people upgrade for cheap.

I built my spare parts into a new NWN2 host machine for testing with, though if I end up with more spares after that, I'll send them Maxcell's way. Got a spare video card that's bare-minumum for NWN2 (XFX GF6800- 128M, PCI-E), and a spare loose AMD 2800+ singlecore processor (939 socket)- if those would help, I could box them up. In a pinch I could spare two 256M DDR400 RAM sticks (for 512) as well, though right now they're living in my server box to push it up to 1.5 g of RAM. The spare 100 gig hard drive makes a near-intolerable high-pitched whine while powered up, so I wouldn't recommend it.
Not sure if Maxcell is a computer-building sort- but I know I'd be happy to have helped him not feel like a second class citizen for not having a NWN2 rig yet. He's a great guy and an excellent RPer, time spent playing with him is time well spent, regardless of the platform.
Truth is though, the NWN2 servers aren't ready for the real fun yet- so there is still some time to collect odds and ends. Maxcell- let me know if any of that would be useful to you. Lou gives me a hard time about keeping all these spare parts around anyway.

i like my newish rig, and it plays it fine...
however, after almost 3 months of playing another live PW server, i'm rather disappointed with nwn2 overall... and i know of several annoying features that will likely never be patched... further, this new expansion/patch problem is causing all sorts of headaches on other PW projects, i hear... heck, spell christmas tree syndrome can't even be turned off yet, and people look ridiculous with multiple spell effects on...
i'm switching back to nwn1 for some time... prolly through the holidays

Actually, turning off the spell effects was one of the first bits of CC that came out. It's up to PWs to choose to use it, though.

ALFA already has the reduced spell effect hak in it's setup, has since the initial set of CC haks.

I didn't have money for a new system so I decided that getting a new car could wait. Got myself a nice rig (yay)...then my car died. The universe hates me.
