#alandfaraway Chat Room

It would be great if we could see a few more members logging in here when they're in chat, to provide help for new members who sometimes log in to ask questions. It doesn't take much effort to join another chat room and it's a great way to help out new members!

Just for ALFA, minimally, I'm already logging into:

#alfa
#alfa-builders
#alfa-sd

when I was still DMing, I was also looking at:
#013
#alfa-nc
#alfa-dm
#alfa-dma

I used to join #alandfaraway as well, but- at some point doesn't it start to get ridiculous? I understand the reasons for the helpdesk, but I'm not sure the pros (sheltering new members from some of our more outspoken members) outweigh the cons (ALFA seeming to be inactive, for the low counts and slow response of it's "main" IRC room). This was, as I recall, more or less the exact prediction of what would happen when forwarding new members over to the "new, cleaner" channel.

If I get a server rig running again that allows me to be on IRC reliably again, I'll try to keep an account logged into #alandfaraway - but one or two more names on that list isn't going to change much. Might be time to toss it in the "sounded good on paper, but..." bin, IMHO.

I still think it's working fine. Quite often get new/potential members in there asking questions. Just unfortunately on the odd occasion they are missed, as no one is active in that room.

I log into #alandfaraway everytime I use IRC. Sometimes I miss them, sometimes I don't. I think it works fine for the purpose of helping new members and applicants.

The day I applied, I had a pleasant conversation with Rotku and a few others in #alandfaraway. It was nice to chat openly with people in an environment where everyone knew I was new and treated me as such.

It's just our nature to be sarcastic when allowed in chat. /raises hand sheepishly

I'll make the 2 calorie effort to type /join #alandfaraway.

Or you could just download mIRC or some other chat program and have it do the work for you, saving those 2 calories.

The 2 calorie burn is actually an incentive to do it! It's like telling my brain "it's okay to be a nerd if you continue doing excercise".

Meh, I usually join at least six channels or so, #alandfaraway being among them. Whenever I was around, I saw coverage to questions usually delivered within 5 mins max - however, that didn't always suffice .

Doesn't hurt to idle around there I guess, and it's good when questions get answered there, but you can't artificially keep a channel alive. The old hares are in chat to have fun and socialize... if they can be gotten to also join #alandfaraway and reply if they see it blinking, all the better.

I personally didn't see the point of splitting chat back when it was first announced, and still don't see it now.

Aside from that, i pay attention to chat for maybe 15 minutes a day, so i doubt you'll see me in there very soon :P
