Silverymoon

Post by Rick7475 »

I have joined Indio on the SF mod to help get it goin. I'll be working on Silverymoon with others.

Anyone who wants to contribute something, perhaps someone who was a past builder, DM, player, etc, no matter how small the item, please PM me.

If anyone has ideas on statics, or even wants to do some interior work, fire away.

Other than that, I plan on building Silverymoon as close to canon as possible and with the same passion I had for the town of Daggerford. The exteriors are initially done, and they look great.

Yes, it's actually pretty exciting news for the server.

I'm conscious of how difficult things have become for Waterdeep in the last fortnight, and after 003 goes Live (around the start of next year with any luck), I'd like to pay cipher back for his help with 003 with a couple of weeks of building assistance.

Rick's a well-known and talented builder and he wants to take control of Silverymoon. I'm just delighted. I didn't know what to do with the place, so his arrival is perfectly timed and a real godsend.

And it must be my lucky week, because someone else whom I hold in great esteem has also just recently shown some interest in a particularly special Silverymoon establishment. It's been such a thrill merely contemplating the possibility. That it may actually happen is beyond my wildest hopes, and would be a major development for the server and ALFA more generally.

This interest has allowed me to concentrate on fleshing out all the smaller towns and beginning the process of getting into beta 2. Should be soon.

Silverymoon is coming along nicely. I am greatly impressed by the layout done by Indio. I have added some new exteriors, played with the toolset and things are just looking wonderful.

The town will truely be the "Gem of the North", and what a gem it will be.

There will be plenty of things for all classes and many religions. There is a magic school, a bard school, a Knights in Silver Fortress, a beautiful palace, and many different temples, including a few evil ones that are tolerated in the city. And, I can add some specific temples (minor) since the canon is vague on the entire list (the major ones are noted). For example, there will be a temple to Torm and one to Cyric. Feel free to PM me with your favorite religion and I can see what can fit if it is not already mentioned. I would like to accomodate everyone's taste within the confines of the canon as much as possible. Drow have been known to even visit the city and have been tolerated.

As with the temples and colleges, there will be many quests and statics, much like there was on Daggerford, but hopefully more refined since I have learned much from that building experience.

I work a good 1 - 2 hours a day in the toolset. It is a bloody nightmare and an unforgiving beast. It crashes all the time and I save incrementally to avoid corrupt files. I have a good machine, Duo Core, 2 M RAM, etc. But the toolset leaks like the Titanic and I have to reboot my box every hour. But the server is progessing and I am excited. Despite the beast I enjoy creating and building this part of Faerun.

Nearby is the Moonwood with it's treehugger fort and werewolves for exploration and hunting. There are a lot of similiarities to the Daggerford server so expect the same quality, fun, statics, and enjoyment.

Screenies to come shortly.

If anyone has ideas on statics for the mage college and bard college, please PM me, those areas are my weak points. Military and goody goody stuff are my strong points.

Indio has a live date and I believe it is doable. Silverymoon may not be fully completed with all the interiors by that time, but it will have enough and things will be added as I plan to make Silverymoon the best ALFA can offer.

Very exciting.

Are you saving as a directory? My stability saving as directory instead of mod is massive.

Also, hide all features of the area except the elements you're working on. We should aim to improve your stability, because once an hour is unnacceptable.

I'll try to save as a directory. Never thought of that, thanks :)

I was also making pretty large things, like new palace and wall towers, gates, etc which were memory intensive.

Should be at interiors this weekend.

Directory's also faster. You should look your computer over too, having to restart every hour is pretty ridiculous and not the toolset's fault. I do a few hours every day and haven't restarted in two weeks. I'll bet you have something going on in the background screwing things up.

For one, if you have the ASUS motherboard/CPU monitor on, turn it off. I noticed it causes all sorts of problems in a lot of programs, including the toolset.

Indeed, it is ASUS, I will beat that motherboard senseless.

Uh oh. Is ASUS not doing as well as it used to be? Last couple of times I've gotten a motherboard ASUS has been the top of its class. (Or at least the class I care about when buying hardware: the high end of the mid range)

No, ASUS boards are great. The PC Probe monitoring program interferes with some other programs for reasons I've not been able to identify, but it's no big deal. Just close it before you use 'em, or only turn it on to spot check your temps.
