The website/forum and you ?

Post by Hialmar »

The company who manages our website and forum has made several upgrades to its hardware/software.

I hope everyone sees it's better than before.

Now is it enough for you ?

Please answer this little poll and if you are in the third case please post here exactly when the problems happen.

The forums had like a week or sluggishness a couple of months ago, but are good nowadays. No problems at all.

Voted good.

Every now and again i get a 'Connection was reset' error, but generally it has been quite good recently.

From time to time the http request times out. I'm guessing there's a good bit of packet loss somewhere or the server is a bit flakey.
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.

Powweb hosts thousands of web servers like ours so when you experience such a problem chances are that one of the thousands servers sharing our hardware uses too much bandwidth or CPU power.

That's why I said on the donation thread that we only have two solutions:
- use a web hosting company like powweb and have some problems from time to time ;
- rent a dedicated server (for 4 times more) and those problems will be solved (excepted in the rare case that the dedicated server company links are dead or too much used (happens only when they are attacked by hackers).

I don't think it's worth it seeing as no-one chose the awful option so far.

If at some time, most people have a bad experience with the server and powweb doesn't tell me that they are upgrading their hardware/software/connections then we will either have to go to another we hosting company (there are hundred of those with about the same price and quality) or head into dedicated hosting also for the website (we already have one for the vault but it cannot be shared with the website).

Stick with what we have.

Nothing we do here is life and death, and we simply are not large enough to warrent using anything better. A bit of time out from the forums is not a bad thing.
