I brought it up originally, mostly because I wanted to hear if anyone else had strong feelings about the subject and what they were, not necessarily with they idea that we need to change anything (although, yes, I came out pretty strong). I lean towards an idea that this is something that kind of distracts from other things we do IG. It could possibly bring things like CvC for loot into question if it hasn't already, and maybe it makes players the greatest source of wealth which distracts or diminishes the value of gain things in quests, or through other RP. So, I do think it might be something worth changing, but ...really, whatever works.

I love CvC. I like to look at it as a board-game type of competition when built up and RPed, and gamed well.There is no greater foe than another player when done right. But maybe the end result is one or the other players PCs ends, and that is most of the time a big deal. I honestly think that if we removed the players stuff as the reward, we would remove all doubt that the CvC was done only for the game/RP value.

But in the end, like I said, its for the sake of discussion. I don't really think we will change anything, and maybe that's because we like it this way, and that's fine.

Maybe all this discussion creates a kind of a norm for the community that we all agree on. Not all things we do have to be put in a rule or in code, but we might think about this issue when it comes up in game because we all talked about it.

The best mini adventure I ever ran was when I put players in direct conflict with other players, and I got thanked for it by those involved. It had far reaching results for months after that, and sent ripples though every server. It lead to exciting RP all round.

What if a PC was killed for their loot? Could the culprit be found? What might happen to them? Who would lead the hunt?

Conflict is interesting.

So long as it's not just an OOC Ganking.

sorry..but you cannot remove the player's loot as a reward for CvC etc.

What needs to happen IMO is that the loot on a player corpse should match what would happen in a true persistent world with intelligent NPCs, monsters etc. carnivores eating on the body etc. Some things disappear over time. This is why I vote for a DM'd loot event where the DM hands out the award from the body. e.g. CvC = 100% of the loot, death while in your party = 100% of loot (so long as you do not flee the field), find month old corpse off the road and you are lucky to get a pair of beat up shoes...

And I'm all for ICvIC. And if the motivation was looting the corpse, well and fine, as long as it's ICvIC. *smacks with wand of alignment adjustment*
