pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

I can probably kill off between 1 and 3 characters in that sort of timeframe.

I am not in favor of a temp vault wipe. We don't need a level playing field, we just need interaction. High level PCs should almost act like mini-DMs. Hire a new PC to go kill a few goblins, and pay them..out of your own pocket, or they could become apprentices or trainees of the higher level players. That way the new players can be included into ongoing plots at an appropriate level. I could see a DM telling a high level player .."you need mundane item "A" but you dont have time because you have to discuss "XYZ" with the mayor of "toonville"...find a low level/new player to get the item for you. DMs should try to be aware of such interactions and award that kind of game play. It's the "trickle down effect" RP model  .

Also, I try not to let XP and level differences both me, and try to concentrate on building a story, but Id be lying if I said it didnt bother me at all. I have been a pretty casual player, and watched the peers of my PC (built around the same time and lived about as long in RL years) greatly outlevel me. It all works out fine so far, but an influx of PCs that start at a higher level will out match me quickly, especially if they play alot. The level portion doesnt bother me as much as it doesn't match with the amount of history I have in my PCs story. Does that make any sense at all?

Lastly, if and when something like this happens, as long as I have the time, I would be very interested in trying a hand at DM.

Burt is probably referring to an incident in which someone posted in debate thread when the debate is no longer actually occurring, which is kinda similar to showing up to vote for President on a Wednesday in December.

I'm not bitter... or butter... but I would like to play my own PC only. I don't have a lot of time normally anyway, but, in case even a temporary vault wipe happens, I just won't login unless I can play my own current PC. Just my 1.9 cents. Sorry. Tis the way I is.

Finally, IMO we should consider moving ALFA to the RP tab on Gamespy instead of the RP Story tab. I have played on quite a few other servers recently and most people I spoke to had never heard of ALFA. When i mentioned the RP Story tab they were like -- "what's that?" Many of the high player volume servers are on the RP tab on Gamespy. I think it will improve our visibility to the player base.

At the risk of encouraging thread necro I shall toss a few tidbits of brain to the zombies. I'm currently trying to encourage a few folks (including myself, if my new system can handle NWN2) who tried ALFA during a horrendous DM lull last year to come back and check things out again.

Any ETA on this?

I just came back to ALFA too. Player population and DM activity is way up. You and your friends should check it out, horse roll out or not.

Hellfire is still working on the project - there are an enormous number of individual animations he needs to crank out. Further information as it becomes available, but for now.
