DM attention for that possibility likely wasn't there, so how fair and non-meta is it to smite down when the 2 PCs happen to meet on the road IG, and the level difference of the PCs is known? Would the LG PC act the same if the players knew the evil PC was two levels above the good than below?
Well said. I think Cloud forgets that her own character has been saved by this same hesitation to enter CvC on more than one occasion

For a long time ALFA has been steadliy playing favorites for the goodies. It is downright laughable that anyone would look to the rare instances when it is the goodies having to hold back and declare that something should be done about it

Cliques and factions are a good thing, they make our fantasy game seem reasonable in the sense that it really is sort of stupid to meet some strangers in a bar and go fight goblins with them. Most people should be cautious with who they rely on in dangerous situations or who they trust to hear their secret plots while on an adventure

The time to be open minded is between game in chat. I think we have extended a hand to play with us to just about everyone we have seen declare in chat that they had no one to play with or was bored alone. Even had someone turn into a pathetic rude little snit on me for the offer, but the rate at which people decide to try playing with us is encouraging in spite of the bad seeds that actually have OOC cliques we have learned we would not want to game with anyway

i'm quite certain you speak of ic groups, and you are quite right.

my impression on the original post however was, and some people have expressed it in game, that it has nothing to do with ic. there simply are player groups who shun newcomers. and by newcomers i don't necessarily mean new players in alfa, but simply anyone who's not been part of the group.

now, we all are people, and we get along with certain types of people. in real world or in the imaginary one. some of us here have virtual playmates spanning back a decade. i would just implore for anyone to have an open mind and attitude to play with someone they previously have not. you never know, you may like it...

Yes I am aware of the original posts intent. In the cases of OOC cliques there is not much to be done. I would not really want to play with those people anyway

This is a group game, and retention is going to be nil for new recruits if they feel shunned in some fashions. Cliques, sadly, do have the habit of bringing out the worst instincts via group dynamics, but that means players in factions / groups should have the biggest motivation to counteract that impression, no?

This bears repeating - ALFA DMs should skew to DMing new players....the old guys who love to hang out with each other IC and OOC are not exactly fleeing ALFA.

Saved? *laughs* Well ive been in two situations where CvC mightve worked IC. One time, she just could'nt take out a druid execution style based on her religous beliefs alone. And the other time, her family and friends were at risk, as well as her home. You don't just leap over the bar with a greatsword and cut off some person's head coup de grace in this game. And definately not in front of your mother and one-year-old son.

As per favoring goodies, not sure. I know JLM spent a good deal of time doing secret dark plots and created some memorable villains and backstories to that effect.

We've had a sucessful Banite faction, some Velsharoon (that did deserve Dm time but for their impossible time slot) and some very evil characters come and go. In the end Dm's chose characters that listen and follow their lead implicitly in regards to the situations presented.

I have not been around for a long time... but so far there is no 'bias' against evil or good that I am seeing.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd

Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"
