Moderated chat does work. The thing is this...those that dont want to play nice get kicked out of chat. They goto the boards and make a stink of it..they get an infra strike.. they keep it up it gets worse. I personally dont have an issue with folks getting out of hand. There are ways to deal with them. Its just not being done as often as it should, but as I said talking with Paazin those days are coming to an end.

Your not going to make everyone happy. As a moderator you just have to be able to live with yourself. If people want to get mad at me if I were a moderator and told them to behave or had to kick them to get a point across then so be it. Im a big guy I can take it.

Still, at least all the NPCs would talk to you, even without a DM. Unfortunately, as long as ALFA's NWN1 is being overshadowed by ALFA's NWN2, it will continue to be a shadow of its potential.
*looks back up at an earlier part of the thread*

Most servers other than TSM (NWN1) had static quests to do and spawns to tussle with, the rewards just got nerfed to next to nothing because folks were fussing over how much xp & loot one could get without a DM watching over one's shoulder. For the Players that weren't going out of their way to rob NPCs blind, hunt, farm or possessed of serious DM time the statics on different servers were almost the only way to earn a living.

I'd love to see some low level dungeons scripted so we could go foolishly explore and see what we could find with or without a DM. Ayergo mentioned he has some on the NWN2 Baldurs Gate, I hear tell of one on the current NWN1 Northern Cormyr and I miss the ones that used to exist on Waterdeep and on The Long Road. Scripted areas like that let us get into all sorts of mischief during the long, long hours when a DM wasn't available. (Yes, there was a time when I wasn't a DM magnet.) General exploring, basic training of groups for combat, learning to scout and communicate in character, all of that we Players could work on ourselves. It's hard to do much of that when you're in an environment where there aren't any spawns.

Will some fool abuse it? Probably.
Should the xp & loot be nerfed so we're all punished? No.
Should the abusers get their noses pinched in a heavy dictionary? *shoves Mystery Fool under a passing bus* Yes.
