My vote may not count for much since a DM I am not, but I wanted to say that I agree with Jayde 100% on this matter. If you want to play a race with abilities that others don't have, you need to also suck up the penalties and deal with it.

If you want to argue that the penalties are too harsh, fine, but this seems like trying to sneak around the issues rather than addressing them.
