I say 2 PC's. Cannot play on the same server.. Can travel to the same server but cannot stay and RP for DM events. Also toons cannot be related in anyway shape or form.
I.E. Joe Bob on TSM server ubber high level fighter cannot leave a will giving all his possessions to Billy Bob the 1st level Cleric on BG. Even though Joe Bob's mother is Billy Bob's brothers sister and married to Billy Bob.
I can agree to this;
I doubt anyone would not agree; restrictions like no muling should be quite obvious as much as 'no looting your previous corpse' and stay out of opposing factions, etc. In a similar vein avoiding more than a single active PCs on the same server makes sense.

Its also a lot easier to increase this number than decrease it, so we should start small.
If you cannot play where you DM, but you can play on say, two out of our four servers at once... does this multiple PC idea inhibit DM recruitment? At least unless our DMing rules were to change along with it. Assuming no two PCs can be on the same turf at once, I guess it's good we have four servers, play on your first and second favourite servers, DM (maybe!) on your third favourite server, and I guess if your two PCs ever wish to travel, one will have to go stand around in fourth least enjoyed server while the other PC switches to one of the top two servers, then bring your other PC out of the fourth one to where his "must never meet" counterpart PC was previously standing. Some crazy logic spiderweb thing goings on possible eh?

If we're doing this, we should do it all the way or not at all. 'Campaign' PCs are effectively a second PC.

A second PC that never gets used.
Let's not try to sweep this away or nerf it into uselessness. If we're going for it, make it 2 PCs or 1 PC per server. 2 PCs is probably a good starting ground or compromise.

Following that logic, why not let everyone have as many PCs as they want...
Don't make a strawman out of a simple statement. I said Make two PCs or don't do it at all. I never said lets make all the servers have one PC.

In response to BB's post, if there were a 2 PC rule I for one would continue to play my main on BG, DM on TSM and play an Alt on WHL, MS or AMN when it goes live. We have enough servers to make 2 PCs and DMing work.

I believe these are the only two options that make any sense. My vote would be 3, but same caveat as others had stated, it would be 2 active PCs at any time. A single temp retired PC not counting against that number.
I personally don't expect to do much with that beyond one character, but as I plan to make an alt to play on MS and maybe DM on MS to help with the open server experiment, I might grow to like having a lowbee alt to join with a second group.

More PCs I predict will mean more risk-taking on the part of many folks with one of their toons.
Which translates into more corpses, which translates into more wealth for Creslyn.
Yup, come to think of it, 2nd PCs will mean more people logging in ... to hunt for corpses!
If this passes, my 2nd pc will definitely be a sneaky halfling stealth type that can learn to scavenge from the best.
