On a side note, I must say I'm a little disappointed that a player's stats were enumerated in open forum as they were, even to illustrate an arguable point. Yes, we pretty much all know that grull's as dumb as a stump and as good looking, but I would think that such comments should have remained at that level, rather than precise numbers.

Slightly? only slightly?

I am furious, it's unfair in insane levels. I want to strangle someone.

If it wasn't done due to a BAD BAD BAD mistake, can i please see a list of stats of other characters being published in the forums?

If it was done in mistake, can someone come and say 'oppps....mistake sorry' and then actually do something ACTIVELY to fix the situation instead of letting go unnoticed? (again)

Because there seems to be hot trend over the last months of doing lots of OOC and IG mistakes with my character, and then letting me deal with the consequences of those mistakes alone without anyone caring to take responsibility.

While we are discussing Charisma, which is always great fun....

I was under the impression that your Charisma stat represented your character's ability to be very attractive when they wanted to be attractive, or very diplomatic when they wanted to be diplomatic, or intimidating when they wanted to be intimidating....which lead me to believe that people with very low Charisma stats tended to end up appearing repulsive when they try and appear attractive, offensive or down right unreasonable when they try to be diplomatic, and that people with very poor Charisma scores tend to appear comical or laughable when they try and intimidate others.

I was under the impression that Charisma helped one succeed in any social situation no matter if it be negotiations, seduction, intimidation, fast talking, white lies, bold faced lies, telling jokes, performing an entertaining act, and that lack of Charisma would hurt you in all social situations no matter what they were.

So as far as the half-ogre in heavy armor towering over you well armed and telling you to lower your weapons and what ever goes.....if that Have Ogre's Charisma is so low that his serious orders, demands, intimidations, posturing or what ever are actually comical, clumsy, and laughable....why listen to him or take him seriously?

The game has stats for a reason people, and we as players do not roll them and get randomly generated character attributes, we get to put the points where we want them so we can create the characters we want to play. If you want to play a hulking physical powerhouse without two brain cells to rub together to get a spark you can! If you want to play a weakly feeble person who is a mental power house you can! You decide what sort of character you want to play and you should put the points where you believe they should be for that character. What you decide to play as far as character concept is near limitless, but every character has his or her limits.....if we toss things like attributes out the window and just RP our characters the way we feel they should be RPed we would end up with a lot of supermen and women running around who can bench press anything, tell the funniest jokes, do the best dance, juggle one thousand knives, speed read through tomes of lore and never forget a thing, characters who always see it coming and are never surprised by anything ever.

So....can someone tell if you have a low Cha by just seeing your character in full plate, full helm, and speaking three simple words? YES

Because in D&D Charisma effects every social interaction and as soon as you socially interact with someone, CHA comes into play.

end rant

I also think it would be cool if we could get Druids tokens so Druids can play nice with the wild life.

That was a pretty good rant jmecha, you're accurately describing why certain numbers matter. Even someone really tall, muscular, kitted out with 10K in arms and armor, can still maybe have a tragically squeaky voice, sound a little slow, or make menacing poses that actually seem comical compared to someone with either the raw attributes or invested skillpoints to brush those things up.

Still, back to the NPC "attack dog" business, I doubt that even if PCs were to use a widget to try to move lots of "friendly" NPCs to "helpful" on DC 20 diplomacy checks, ALFA for game balance reasons might not support it, just like we've often shied away from disposable combat henchmen being capable of hiring or befriending, short of low octane systems like d20 compliant doggies (with their tiny handful of hp), or the wide world of summoned monsters. High octane companions like super beefy dogs or ultra loyal men at arms always get sneered at for fairly good reason, plain unbalancing to already hard to balance static content. *shrugs* Even worse if you could sic all kinds of permanent minions on other PCs in CvC.

ALFA NWN1 PC: Jacobim Foxmantle

I would really like to put that into test and see you going up to Mike Tyson(Clear example of character with low CHA, and probably not very high INT) and tell him you're not taking him seriously. Maybe share your thoughts with him that he's comical(biting ears off) and laughable?

Maybe try to manipulate him? or out smart him?

People tend to be very brave on the paper and theoretically.

Charisma should come into play during social interaction , mostly when the two sides decide to actually interact, and the communication is not one directional. Like a guardsman telling a commoner what to do.

Code: Select all

Charisma measures a character’s force of personality, persuasiveness, personal magnetism, ability to lead, and physical attractiveness. This ability represents actual strength of personality, not merely how one is perceived by others in a social setting. Charisma is most important for paladins, sorcerers, and bards. It is also important for clerics, since it affects their ability to turn undead. Every creature has a Charisma score.
So If Mike Tyson was a guardsman, and he was telling me something, why would i care from :

1. His force of personality?
2. persuasiveness?
3. Personal magnetism?
4. Ability to lead?

If all that was true, then i guess yeah, like stated above bards, sorcerers and paladins were the idle guardsman and law enforcers.

But it's not, because law enforcement at least at low ranks , has nothing to do with charisma. It's just men with sticks willing to perform actions.

Now, assuming if i played dumb half ogre , and attractive woman(high CHA) would break the law and my character would have caught her. Good chance he would bend the law, and makes her some discounts if she is winking is suggestive. (Depends on the half ogre alignment, and other factors)

On the other hand, if i played the same dumb half ogre and i would caught joyful bard(with high CHA) breaking the law. Good chance i would smear him on the ground just for being colorful bard(annoying in the eye) with songs and poets i never understood. Besides, he gets more chick than me, it's perfect excuse to get rid of him by breaking his mandolin on his head and shoving his flute in his...

Now, if the bard is a PC and he would try to be smarty by starting to roll diplomacy checks, i start rolling my own checks , like intelligence check(and fail because i have 5-6-7?)

And then get even more annoyed for not understanding what he wants, and automatically(in my self defense mechanism that is reserved for people with low int) assume that he's trying to fool me .....and break his bones.

Okay guys, this has gone far enough. This is not a place to argue about the actions that DMs took in game, nor a place for DMs to complain about players.

The Clans issue seems to have been answered by Wynna, in the previous page. If you want to open another, NON-PERSONAL thread about playing stats, feel free to do so - although I will warn anyone now who does, that if the thread degenerates like this, it will have a similar fate. But for now, I'm striking this thread with my magical wand of Admin Forum Locking.
