Well, I'm not trying to argue it should be implemented into ALFA right now, I do believe there is a feat (that requires a set number of levels, and other requirements) that simulates that Loremaster Secret. It, to me, anyway, is different from skill focus, but I understand the argument that skill focus could just as well take its place in ALFA. The difference between the two, really, is that one affords a character to learn the basics of a new skill (by 4 ranks) the other increases by 2 (as said before 3, effectively if you have the points to use), but does not have to be in a skill with zero prior ranks, and so reflects more of a master's edge, in my opinion. Ultimately, I believe, it comes down to if you believe a level 1 character is a commoner or an adventurer. Anyway, cheers to you all, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as those days are approaching!

Sometimes, you ask a question which really shouldn't be a can of worms....but then other people like worms...and it just spirals. Believe me, I know. I seen it!

I'd think it's a good sign if this is all we have to point to for "drama". In the grand scheme of things, this is incredibly minor stuff.

One could also argue that it shows a current lack of passion for the project.

one could argue NickD's only passion for the project is hoping for a fight. wtf is your problem anyway? There's a disagreement, and people don't errupt into angry vile outbursts? OMG! Something must be wrong!

Yeah, it could be that the volatile infants who pitched 6 year old fits have largely left/gone inactive, allowing the majority of us who CAN disagree with one another without resulting to bickering and name calling to post thoughts and disagreements in a civil fashion. If No Flames means the downfall of ALFA, I am really going to enjoy the downward slope. :D

one side of the argument worries about the mechanics, ie munkism, the other side is worried about the RP aspects...

When i played Milliam, at her retirement (not counting the giant Knock-down spamming goats on Loudwater  ), Millia was a Rogue2/Bard4/Wizard4. She was originally neutral good, changed to Lawful Good in shadowdale (Patrols for the win? patrols for the spending money? patrols for all the starts of mischief? ). Now i never took my 2nd level of rogue until level 9, so i was forever without evasion. eventually since she no longer actively advanced as a bard, eventually the Multiclass penalty would have applied, but only by DM's i suppose.

does it really matter? depends... do you constantly go out and look for trouble (Yeaaaaaah farming!) or like to RP more?

*sigh* i dunno...
<Gebb> ok, what does it mean to be "huggled"? <spidroth_esq> Something terrible. <Squamatus> buggered <Dran> sodomised <Squamatus> by an acorn on a stick <tresca> LOL <Gebb> that didn't help <alynn&gt

Think the "ALFA view" on favored classes is "do it per 3.5", which includes automating certain XP penalties into awards for lopsided, non favored combinations.

Think the "ALFA view" on multiclassing is also "do it per 3.5", but also "do it per FRCS and related resources" which means a monk and paladin prohibition on multiclassing and continuing to advance (from vanilla 3.5) is loosened to a prohibition unless part of a recognized canon order, and following the rules of that order. Breaking those prohibitions is fine, the negative consequence associated with that, though, is no further advancement in the monk or paladin class, as applicable (note this is distinct from "Ex-Paladin" status per SRD). Again though, if you feel that monkhood or paladinhood has been exhausted as a path for your PC, branching out in "unique" ways and never looking back isn't necessarily a terrible thing.

There's also "ALFA member" views on multiclassing, not related so much to the rules above. Those views vary (see above!). I'd suggest putting the highest emphasis on those of the people (including DMs) who you intend to game with, and/or those who you see as DnD gurus, if you're feeling tentative or in doubt (or while we're at it, feeling guilty about a cheesy build), and want a second opinion.

Note that plenty of DMs have disagreements as well, if your patron DM today admires "interesting" builds, and you travel tomorrow to a server whose DMs think a build is completely cheesy, well, you may feel like you're getting a cold shoulder, or encounters that constantly pick on the weak spots of your build, or some other unpleasant reception, and be completely right about it. Sucks, but it's a part of having more than one DM involved in operating a world, lots of different views out there on DnD, PGing, RPing, exploiting, whatever.
