If you want to see the new conversation system and overland map in detail, check the gameplay video.

Mosr impressive.

I just wonder how multi-player friendly the convo system will be. It would be splendid if a party could 'share' a conversation in game using that new gui they've made for it...every person's skills being made available.

It would also be nice if the overland map showed all players, but I suspect it will only show 1. It looks nice though....am looking forward to giving it a whirl.

The was not a very well done trailer. Gameplay video is alright - though he might have found a script, uh, helpful.

On indefinite real life hiatus

[22:52] <Veilan> obviously something sinister must be afoot if a DM does not have his social security number in his avatar name!

Rumor has it Swashbuckler will be a base class, any chance we can get this here at ALFA once we start using the expansion?

Considering it's been in one of the videos, I'd say it's a bit more than a rumour. :P

Players who fire up new player characters will also be able to roll up one of the game's two new classes. The first is a dexterity-based fighter called a Swashbuckler who relies on speed and finesse to defeat opponents, rather than brute force. The second is the Doomguide, a cleric specializing in the destruction of the undead.
From Gamespy

If it is a balanced class, why not?

Guess it would depend how close / far it is from the PnP swashbuckler.

In PnP they have a lot of class skills, often in social / rogueish areas that aren't well represented in NWN2. It wouldn't be surprising if some odd substitutions were made, or if this was ignored in favor of something the engine could work better with, such as direct combat advantages being created.

Many of the special abilities in PnP I bet could work in a video game context. Free weapon finesse, insightful strike at 3rd, a certain limited dodge ability, maybe the flanking thing (8th) as well. Same token though, some items like "Lucky" (reroll something daily after 11th) only works in turn based PnP, or as a "RP skill" when DM'd in a video game.

I guess some amount of the "jump & tumble" focus of the class would be completely lost in a mostly 2D environment (ok, there is a Z-axis), no swinging from the chandeliers and whatnot, but just as rogues are screwed in that regard, I guess swashbucklers can be equally sad about that (especially sad at 13th when they'd get Acrobatic Mastery).

Anyhow, yeah, seeing whether the class resembles the PnP class, and if not, why not, is always an exercise to go through.

(EDIT - see the Complete Warrior for full class details. Or a WOTC page for highlighted pros/cons of the class, if no access to CW ( http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cwc/20050714a ))
