Meh.

As I see you've left out an important point or two from my last post, I'll reiterate....

Not that anyone will be able to play a Damn thing if we don't get our servers into beta...

So before you complain, work the toolset so at least we'll be able to play SOMETHING...and let's worry about the Tiefling issue that's been blown way out of proportion because the complainers have nothing else to complain about atm later.
Well, thats exactly the point. Here in alfa land, we spend time taking choice and diversity OUT of the game. Not that it is a lot of work comparing getting a server live, however, it is the bloody mentality behind the decision that really irks. I mean, what makes planetouched more difficult to RP compared to Dwarfs and Elves?

I give up trying to make a rational arguement. Let them have their damned Teiflings...I hope they all die at first level so your concepts get flushed down the toilet... :P

Is there a post somewhere that states specifically which races will and won't be allowed for NWN2? I can't find it.

I'm not sure there's a post especifically saying which ones will and which won't. There are however a series of long and flame infested threads talking about the issue. It was a somewhat general consensus, back when Inaubryn was lead that all races included with the game were supposed to be allowed. Then, and I'm not sure exactly how, a new assumption arose, saying all races, but planetouched would be in. After a few flamefests Admin agreed on the poll that decided planetouched would not be a playable race for the NWN2 servers. So we're pretty much going with teh races we already have for NWN and that's about it. Unless someone changes it all again, I guess.

Thusfar, the list of playable races is the same for nwn2 as it is for nwn1. No planetouched.

and that's coming the guy who's going to help improve our player retention ;)

But what about player attraction? Don't you think we're already niche enough? Let's see...

Welcome to ALFA
Applications and forms to fill! A Strict Charter with Pillarz! 50% more rules and restrictions than the competition! You'll start at level 1, but Instant Death (tm) will blow your mind! You get 0 xp for combat too! As a bonus, we give you 2 less races to play! We hunt a random powergamer each month; forum excitement guaranteed! Come one come all!

Absurdity aside, perhaps we're such a niche that any further restriction won't affect the project anyway. I mean, every race have their fanbase. Those who are against the plane-touched are certainly not interested in playing one...
I give up trying to make a rational arguement.
Why are you so against the idea of your mates playing such character? for the fun of denial? because you might meet one? It's forgotten realms, not lord of the rings. Because you think of them as npcs? the same can be said of every non-human race. Not only that, but your player mates can make characters far more in depth than npcs will ever be...don't you trust them?

What was rational in the decision to not include them in the first place?

It doesn't cover the finer points, but that's enough to respond to the question.

an interesting read, although my rage-meter did reach a few peaks while at it. there are some completely worthless counter arguements in there...

But it does give the general picture of the decision, so thanks for the link.

Considering how many ALFAns have/are played/playing demon-blooded/tainted/cursed PC's ( you know the type: dark, brooding, self-conflicted; being constantly harrassed by demons due to some self-inflicted plot curse) might as well let ALFA Faerun get run over by the cookie cutter tieflingmobile. We need more of these types obviously.

Besides, 1 in every 4 women in Faerun get impregnated by demons daily at around 3:30pm. It's like tea and crumpets, only it's demon sex.

Funny, I distinctly recall an adventure based on killing Lolth permanently back in 1980. Since then, the idea of Lolthian drow just seems absurd even as a monster race, much less a player race. Far more absurd than planetouched. And half-orcs have always seemed absurd as a player race. The rape offspring of an orc and a human? Another monster race in AD&D, and back then they were portrayed as physically weak and skulking, an assassin type. In fact they were typically assassins, and "assassin" was an NPC-only class.

The game changes. You either change with it or you become obsolete. ALFA is choosing to become obsolete.

I was hoping for a link with an admin decision but I guess one was never issued then.

Against my better judgment I'm once again posting here. The closest thing to what you're looking for might be the polll thread. The thread where they actually decided on how to run this poll is still out there, but I honestly don't feel like looking for it.

Souvarine, I left the mantle of player retentions a while back...as time constraints dictated. I realized then, as I do now, I spread myself too thin at times.

And as for being against teiflings,....In fact, earnestly I am not. I couldn't care less about the issue, I am too focused on other aspects to be. I hope they are allowed. I tend to agree with Killthorne..I have seen enough of the brooding demon plagued whoa is me character types...weather it be I am innocent except for my blood so trust me to the oh you were sucker enough to trust me because I said I was innocent to Ima rp all by myself (hell, even I have gone there)...

But by all means, I hope teiflings are allowed. Could be a fun addition. And I hope the PC concept that you yearn to play doesn't bite it at level 1, but if they did, I'm sure you and every other teifling lover would role up another one, no biggie.
