I've sent the gift-code to Aitana who is in charge of applications for storage.
pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

Should probably make our page with info on where to get NWN2 more visible, and may be worth removing the links that sell a game version that requires updating. Plenty of people have permission to do that, I believe, though would need Hialmar's approval.

I know the blood money drives keep the ship in the water so to speak. I am gonna guess that at least a small fund for gifting the game would be manageable. It will save time when a potential needs the game, it can just be bought for them immediately by whomever handles that fund.
I only suggest it so that when after Booms gift is used up, if someone needs a copy we don't have to beg for a donor at that point.
Maybe a hundred bucks? Just to sit in there till needed, and it would buy several copies. Unless the codes don't ever expire, in which case we could just buy 4-5.
I volunteer Loulabelle's money as well.

also this. If this is a yes, I will change my signature as well to just get them to Aitana or however we want to do this. Just so it is accepted players who can get the free game, and not just anyone who want a free gameFoamBats4All wrote:Hialmar.Castano wrote:I support Boom's position. Re: Rekindle that idea: NWN2 for new members
For reasons maxcell just outlined, I have severe reservations about paying for other peoples games 'officially'. There is no reliable merchanism to stop freeloaders from googling ALFA, seeing we offer keys for free, and pretending to care about us before disappearing.
Keep it between friends and unofficially, and I have no issues with it. Even donated keys should be given out sparingly for this reason.
Only if 2-3 trusted members vouch for someone would I see us giving games like this as viable.

Re: Rekindle that idea: NWN2 for new members
I donated an extra SoZ cd key for a fellow ALFAn once; his name was Galadorn (he had difficulty getting a copy of the game back then in Thailand... 4, 5 years ago?).
I will go to my grave regretting that decision. The bastard has not crafted me one single free uber item with Bu.
j/k Galadorn! *man hug*

Bu's loot is with Adanu, I am sure an "IC transfer" could be arranged for the right price.

Re: Rekindle that idea: NWN2 for new members
This here is one thing that I trying to get away from. If we only do it unofficially and between friends, there is no point in doing it at all. In the past, I've bought the game to two returning ALFAns (RDW was one of them, can't remember the other) and RDW went on to play quite a bit before RL claimed him again. I don't regret that at all. As long as we keep ALFA a high quality place, they'll use their free game to play with us. And honestly, who cares what they do when they don't? I don't think it should come with obligations.Adanu wrote:Keep it between friends and unofficially, and I have no issues with it. Even donated keys should be given out sparingly for this reason.

What's to stop people from googling us, seeing we offer 'free games' to anyone who farts in our direction, and then never come around again? Wasted money.

Well, I'd think the application process would. And if you think it's wasted money, don't contribute. I'm trying to build positivity here, there is no need to create an opposition to something that is completely voluntary.Adanu wrote:What's to stop people from googling us, seeing we offer 'free games' to anyone who farts in our direction, and then never come around again? there is nothing to stop people from doing that. there is also nothing to stop people from skipping a bill at a restaurant.
this is still a good idea.
