NWN2 Underdark - Initial Exploratory

I intend to support a handful of houses of Lolthian, Vhaeraunian, Eilistraean and Loviatan drow from live on the Moonsea.

In several places on the Moonsea, drow will not be KOS, Zhentil Keep and Sulasspryn will be places they can walk freely. There will be a significant surface drow bases for Vhaeraunians and Eilistraeans. There will also be a significant portion of the upperdark if I can help it since it is critical to certain parts of the economy..

In accordance with canon, I also intend to have a portal from a Northdark or Sschindrylyn server..

As long as there is enough interest to play drow on the Moonsea however, otherwise I'll spend my time supporting other aspects the players desires.

Actually Thang, I hope you don't give up on the drow thing - it would be WONDERFUL if the drow were able to visit different servers. In NWN1, we had (for most of the time) had only one server, either Skullport or North Underdark. And because we were so limited, it felt like we weren't really a part of ALFA. But if there were places we could go, then it would be a lot more like the experience other ALFAns get - the chance to explore, to move around a bit, to actually feel like you are in a larger world. So, I do hope you keep building.

Yes, please continue with your efforts Thang! I'm still in the earliest stage of conceptual design, so it will be quite a while before I'll have anything near to a live server. Plus, I'll still have go through all of the red tape of getting admin approval to take the helm of a server.

I think it would be interesting to see how much more area you could actually cover with an Underdark server as you'd most likely be able to avoid using memory munching exterior areas. That plus a decent travel map and you might be able to (sub)span a number of surface servers. Is there a good set of drow-style buildings availble?

I am very interested as a player to play in an underdark setting as a drow. I played a drow warlock on the standalone skullport server for over 2 years, i only left it because i out grew it, and i couldnt travel around now and then. I am very interested in playing a survivor of a lost house, dis owned type of drow, who does at times travel back and forward from the surface (disguised of course) for various reasons, or as a mercenary for slaver groups in and around skullport.

Awesome. It seems like there is enough interest from Players, DMs and builders.

Just an FYI, before starting on this, I first have to build a system that will run NWN2 (or wait 6 months for my husband to return from an out of state job with our gaming rig. *sigh*) Then I've got to get up to speed with the toolset.

I didn't want to invest the time or money if there was little to no interest in an underdark server. But it looks like the interest is still here.

I would be willing to assist regular DMs with playing NPCs for their games, helping with FX & ambience, filling in when players are present and no other DMs are available. I am willing to study the server and become as versed as required by you. I would submit a series of "on-the-fly" adventures to you for your review. My intentions are to be approved for DMing on every live ALFA server, so I can provide across the board assistance, I will do whatever you require to feel comfortable with me as a "guest" DM in your house.

For those who know me, Vendui' abillen. It has been a long time....

For those who do not know me, I am Faeryl, one of the builder/scripters of the NWN1 Underdark, an old drow Matron from past eras, well versed in the underdark's history, but hesitant to move forward into new ways.

The NWN2 Underdark has been abandoned and is on the verge of being lost into the oblivion of disinterest (my own included). It seems that Inaubryn, HDM of 027 Northdark, has moved on, and rightfully so. He has had little to no support (mea culpa). But sometimes, positive change brings positive outcomes. New faces, new leaders, and new attitudes bring the possibility of renewed interest. What happens next is entirely up to you.

Faeryl, sweetheart, how are ya? First of all, by no means consider my departure from the underdark and ALFA at-large your fault. This had absolutely nothing to do with anything you did or didn't do. I'm actually building an underdark area, just not for ALFA. That being said, I'm glad to see you still have interest in the the project and maybe some of the new administrators can get ALFA turned around to the point that it attracts more creative minds, like your own, that want to stay here.

Good luck and I'd be happy to help or at least contribute in a consulting capacity, maybe even more so down the line.

I played as a drow once. I gotta say its worst bloody thing ever in ALFA. The xp was atrocious and gameplay was dull then again maybe it was my fault for being a lowborn commoner in a house. - which for some reason I wasn't treated like one. I'm glad I didn't stick with that character because I can clearly see the B.S. of highbie drow murdering the frick out of Faerun not to mention each other. They should call it grief roleplaying.

Pretty offensive stuff mate. I don't really know who you are, but the liberties you take with regards the work people put in here leave some questions about how much I want to know.

I've found it useful, as someone who was equally capable of being an ass, to avoid saying anything when there's no point to a post. I recommend you consider it.

Sorry if you found my honesty offensive and that's okay we don't need to be friends. Who am I? What do I contribute? I'm just a roleplayer. One of the lowly ones who you'll never hear about, the ones who don't make the roleplaying honor role. In the beginning I was many, then I was few, soon I will be none at all because all I contribute is roleplaying. . . and if you take that away. . .

Its unfortunate that my experience was bad but I'm talking about my own experiences on one single server out of many that were live. I didn't like playing as a drow. That doesn't mean others share my view or that my views wouldn't change. There is nothing wrong with saying NU was the most sub-par experience I ever had in all of ALFA. People have their own opinions of different servers that's all. I said nothing bad about the DM team, in fact they were helpful and I still said I would play on there. The fact is ALFA is spread pretty thin as far as DMs go. Since I know nothing about DMing. . . playing is the only alternative.

You played on NU? Hmm. I don't recall that - but then I am getting old. Anyway, just to make a counter point, playing on NU was the best experience I've had in ALFA, and I've had a lot of good experiences here (TFN with Muse, SP with Ecclesia, TSM/NWN2 early days, etc). That said, it seems this thread has gotten off track with opinions of NU 'back in the day.' So ...

Its great to see people interested in the 'dark again, and I am, um, invigorated? Rejuvenated? Regurgitated? Happy that Faeryl is back. I would rather play than DM, but I will help the 'dark come along if I can (save for building - I'm not going back into the toolset even if it means ALFA sinks - sorry, it gave me a migraine in half-an-hour).
