I read Miks whole thing. While I agree with some of it... I do want to point out some of us do NOT play this for anxiety. I for one am terrible with it.
You don't want anxiety? Really? I mean, um, don't you have any when adventuring? The thrill of kissing death on the cheek and then running away before the reaper takes your life is the most visceral of the pleasures of ALFA. There are other things to enjoy as well - my best moment had nothing to do with combat - but still, you know, if you are playing an adventurer, who presumably goes on .. you know .. adventures .. I'd think anxiety would come with the territory, CvC or not. But hey, everyone is different - I am living proof of that in real life, so go with what works for ya'.

M.

PK = Player Killing .. huh, thanks. In retrospect, seems pretty obvious. *facepalm* That said, as much as I disagreed and argued with certain ALFAns, I never killed any players. Just their characters. ;)

Not for me.

Combat anxiety I don't like, but it's part of the package here.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd

Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

Its very nice to dream of a utopian playground where we all play nicely with respect, holding hands and patting each other on the back for how awesome we enhance each others RP's, but this is not what we have. I personally would like everyone to model their CvC expectations off OGR's, but that isnt going to happen either.

I have witnessed, or been privy to some very good CvC, both non lethal and lethal. Sadly, from my experience, 95% of the time CvC is based on one, or a combination of, the following:
- OOC player differences that flow into game
- CvC based on meta play and meta information
- Highbies ganking lowbies (really, have they nothing better to do?)
- OOC knowledge of good loot on the victim
- CvC based on boredom (no DM's DM me so I am going to make my own fun)
- CvC to increase wealth
- CvC based on weaksauce RP (but im a pally/blackguard, i must smite all evil/good)

Forget CvC nirvana and ALFA of the past, this is what we have now and it drains time and resources from DM's/Admin and completely demotivates them, aswell as creates bad blood amongst players. I would rather our volunteers not have to wade through this quagmire of frustration.

I think both options are good compromises and I would like to thank the Admin for the time they have put into consideration.

I suppose Galadorn is right and some people like to collect PC heads like trophies to put on the wall. That has never been the "thrill" for me. The thrill comes from the chance that my PC might die. The thrill comes from immersing in the character to the point that the character's emotions produce murderous intent at a level where he would risk his own life. You can sometimes get that adrenaline rush battling spawns, but the back and forth interaction with another player controlled PC, with all of the surprise and uncertainty that goes with it, is a dynamic experience second to none in my view.

That said, in my opinion it has to be fun for both players to be enjoyable. Anyone who gets their rocks off by crushing other players characters, their feelings be damned, needs a trip behind the woodshed in RL as far as I am concerned.

So, what you're saying is that we should not engage in virtual violence against each other's characters, we should engage in real violence against each other's persons? Huh, odd twist that.

Well, I have to tell you, I am NOT letting you drag me behind the woodshed for a spanking without a fight ... unless you buy me a drink first. ;)

Yes, because the actual violence will have been justified.

And you'll get the drink after . . . .maybe. =D

Behind the woodshed, with Mikayla, and a spanking.. After that, I am the one who'll need a drink because I am quite sure I am not the one who will administer said spanking..

Alfa has been "dying" for how many years? technically I guess you are correct since everyone starts dying at birth.
