An open commentary for: Open comment period, proposed changes to ALFA's CvC policy
Is hardly a playground for personal grievances, be sure to note that there are several parts of the administration that can be helpful if there are needs and that most ALFAns (in my experience) are open for discussions along the several IRC channels that we have available.

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

Come on people, you are making me lose my new-found optimism about the re-birth of ALFA.
Do something positive: Go to the Player Retention forum, post the user names of people that you want to contact to help bring about your own view of ALFA and the email address will magically appear in your In-Box. *poof*

Re: Open comment period, proposed changes to ALFA's CvC poli
They've left for a reason. As far as I see it, things have not improved. So to invite them back would only showcase how further this community has fallen as far as our own standards. I know that's not what you want to hear, because you're an extremely positive and helpful person, but there it is. Again, as I've expressed before, it isn't a good or bad thing, it's just evolution, baby. When I see someone posing as the Knight of Alfa, when they themselves can't even follow the easy damn rules we have, I feel compelled to speak. But I'll keep the ole trap shut from now on. /me salutesWild Wombat wrote:I'd prefer that you ask me for some email addresses, you know.danielmn wrote:Apologies WW, pink pink and Boom. ^ Too funny, Dan (may I call you Dan) => I am speaking of your new avatar. Very cool.
However, may I point out one simple thing: truth is relative. Yes, you have a monopoly on it. But your monopoly on truth only encompasses your version of the truth. You are (temporarily, I hope) mired in a conviction that ALFA is in a death spiral. You are so pessimistic that you can't even see any merit in my argument that if you could bring back some folks that share your vision of how things should be done in ALFA it would be a step towards reviving ALFA as you remember it.
Snap out of it, man! Go and find your hard-core friends and stage a coup and take over this place before it is overrun by the barbarian (aka PGing) hordes! Power to the veteran elite!
...

[Edit - everybody does realize that I am poking fun with my reference to the veteran elite ... which does not exist IMO. I am simply trying to cajole Dan into joining me in my world of sunshine and daisies!}

Re: Open comment period, proposed changes to ALFA's CvC poli
I just want to say, for my part alone, I was not expressing any negative feelings towards the rule changes, I was expressing my shock. I am not giving a thumbs up or a thumbs down, I am just surprised.
Now then ... I'd like to un-retire Sheyreiza. Could someone please put my 14th level drow priestess of Lolth back in my vault?
J/K of course, she was NWN1. But .. well, weird. The whole concept of un-retiring characters is hard for me to grasp. What are the limits? How long can your PC have been retired for? What if the PC is no longer in your vault? What if you created and played a PC after the one you want to un-retire? In other words, can you un-retire any of your previous PCs, or just the most recent?
Sorry to ask all these questions, I am just trying to get my head around this. As for the flame-war stuff, I left my forum-fire about 4 years in the past, so I will stay out of it. Just looking for information, thanks.
