Flame Blade spell

Post by ElCadaver »

Hi All,
not sure if this is the right area, but I can;t seem to find the lvl 1 flame blade spell anywhere. Has it been banned or something? I really would like to take it on my next lvl up, which should be soon.

Do you mean Blades of Fire? It's in game. Happens to be conjuration, if that is a banned school for you maybe won't appear in eligible choices? Horrid duration, but hey.

Not to be confused with Druid "Flame Blade" at a higher level (2nd).

Are you talking about the wizard/ranger spell Blades of Fire:

Or about the druid spell Flame Weapon:

The majority of ALFA's spells aren't SRD (the FRCS and Spell Compendium sourced spells greatly outnumber the Player's Handbook sourced ones); if we made a policy of removing them, we'd have to be ready for the peasants to flood the streets with torches and pitchforks.

Blades of Fire is still in, as wizard or ranger 1, lasting 2 rounds (as a way of compensating for the casting time being a standard action, instead of a quick action), spell ref #1163.

It, however, is using talk table strrefs from the 2nd expansion, and it's possible to get an install without any of those strings in the default talk table: check for the display of other known places where they go missing (Conviction and Leadership come to mind)-- it might be a problem with the install.

There is a distinction between "Not SRD" and "Not D&D"

The SRD is a collection of core texts published by Wizards of the Coast under the Open Game License, which allows any publisher to use the product identity of the d20 system, provided that they also publish their material under the same license (that is-- you can't disallow others from altering or reusing your material if yours is altered and reused material to begin with)-- as a sort of vague attempt to nudge D&D toward a copyleft project.

But it flopped, and people knew that they could keep their copyright rights to their work while still using the d20 material by just not claiming the d20 product identity, while overtly writing for compatibility with the system: which Wizards of the Coast caught on about and stopped publishing new material under the OGL.

Thus, there are commonly-cited books in Dungeons and Dragons (the Spell Compendium, in this case) which cannot have their full text republished online, because they reserve all copyright rights, while others (like the Player's Handbook) can have the majority of their contents (except rules on how to level up and a handful of creatures which are intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast, like beholders, slaad, or yuan-ti) republished online in full text, producing sites like d20srd.org. They actually explain the lot on their FAQ.

Thanks guys. So is it watch this space? I will lvl soon, and need to know if I Can take it on lvling, or need to purchase and scribe it, the former being preferable.

if this is the wizard spell that makes a weapon do fire damage I use it all the time, it's there.

On the off-topic stuff: we are not redoing ALFA's spell lists unless admin make us. We are missing enough spells as it is.

Thanks Castano,
Are you saying you can buy it as a scroll, or it will be there on lvl up?

When I took my first lvl of Wiz on TSM, it wasnt available on the spell list. Could it be different on different servers.

I olny need a few xp to lvl, so I'll see if it is there ( on MS at the moment)

If I find a benevolent DM when I'm lvling, I'll see if they are willing to let me redo my first lvl as Wiz, as I had to chose spells I didnt want due to tit not being there.

If you can buy a spell, it should also be available on level up. If you can't find it, check your default talk table; there are known bugs in installing.
