pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

No, actually it's spot on. Witch hunts, even in a world with real witches, would be expected to convict innocent people a lot. So if you're really serious about being all hardcore with warlocks, then any magic user (and a few who are not) should have pretty much a likewise chance for summary execution. Ironically, your mom doesn't have 10 ranks of diplo, bluff and intimidate at her disposal, not to mention other resources, so she should be all the more likely to be lynched than the actual warlock.

So would you please stamping character classes to people's foreheads. It doesn't matter so much what characters actually are on the sheet, it matters how people perceive them due to their actions. Now lynching the LG sorcerer when she sided with some ostracized outcast - there's some Arrr to the Peee! ;)

well,as long as we are going with the time period of no trials and hangings....

we might as well hang her for being a female PC who even dares to weild even minor minute power in a paternalistic male dominated society.

HANG ALUSTRIAL!!!!

Thank you ! thank you! thank you!
I truly have enjoyed every single comment in this thread, from the Mechanics of spell craft.. To Throw her into the pond!!!
All wonderful , and I thank you all. The only reason I envisioned a trial of sorts was to be able to eloquently beguile the masses ( all three of them ) with half truths , believable principles, seductive reasoning , frank logic , emotional appeals ( wow maybe I can win an election with this ! )... Before being burned alive... During which comes out the curses upon harvests, unborn children, well waters, and a call for foreign boots trample the lands and ... Toast !

To me , this is Rp worth being there for.
Ya , ya, I know ... Never gonna happen... Ah well, the demented can dream !

Yeah I think the thing about playing a warlock is that as a warlock you probably wouldnt let anyone see your warlock abilities (save in life or death circumstance) until you were absolutely sure you could trust that other person. Just play the roll of a gimpy fighter or crossbow shooter and hope people dont meta other stuff.

Really Role Playing a warlock ... as I see it

Post by Lady Crankenstein »

As a clear example of how VERY different Rp is for a warlock , than for ALL , other classes of spellcasters... Disobeying or coming into conflict With your source of power , can lead to sudden loss of all warlock powers , until such conflict is resolved.
Here is a case wher my own self defined way to Rp this class bit me in the ( you know ) .
But , such is ,and can be the fun unique to this class.
And yes I know that a cleric can lose powers by straying out of alignment but this situation is Very personal, shifts quickly with die rolls of Will against Will .
Wow, it helps to have a great Dm in a big way.
I wonder if any one has Rp'd this class in such a way before ...?
If not , then let me say it is a fun , challenging and wild ride ... Yehaa !

If the player wants to RP that then they can, but there's nothing in the rules or lore that mentions loss of powers or a requirement to follow the whims or will of the creature that granted them their powers as far as I know. Something similar (in terms of loss of power / loss of control) could be done as a sorcerer not being able to control their emotions well or a wizard who panics under pressure or is absent minded.

Nah, once the devil or demon or devil or elder evil or fey gives you the abilities by having the sex, blood pacting, or whatever, with you or one of your long lost relative then ya have em for good. Its not like they can be taken away as a cleric's powers, yer basically selling yer soul for some cool pew-pew action.

Soul or -other- deals.

Not that much you can do with a soul. Much you can do with an indivudial walking on the mortal plane. Never forget that.

Soul is about the only currency that matters in the lower planes. One more soldier, maybe the one that'll win the Blood War!

Fey though, pfft who knows what motivates them. Only other fey I suppose.
