I am sorry it got like this, really a bit shocked. thinkpig you are alright, (not that it matters for me to say), just no worries.
I hope a grievance need not be filed, but if it is warranted already, as a DM it is your right, and a well trusted right by all including me.
Yes I think it would be Ok to lock this thread of course. The plan did not happen like I thought, it is truly a touchy subject, and being on an extreme dosen't help when trying for discussion regardless of intentions. Cheers all!
A CvC pre-nuptual agreement question(s)?

Re: A CvC pre-nuptual agreement question(s)?
This thread reminds me how right I was to put in place a "DM must be there for any CvC combat occurrence" rule on MS.
Basically if the CvC is really that IC for you - you will be willing to pause your game play and set up a session with a DM. This has resulted in only meaningful CvC.
I had to lay the law down pretty hard on MS in the first week though as there was an attempted CvC on day 1 with poor reasons behind it.
(nothing involving thinkpig for clarification - as to the Red wizard a good chunk of the server - both good and bad factions - was after him - I felt bad was a new player who did not take factions into account when rolling up his openly Red wizard PC- but he took it well and rolled a few new PC concepts that were pretty cool. Hope he is still around ALFA).
I think we still need to end CvC in ALFA - the proof is all of the posts above.

While I admittedly think CvC can be enjoyable, I do not lack empathy for other players or the stories of their characters.
If it is IC for me to CvC in a situation where I will probably lose/die from it, I will go through with it and probably lose my beloved PC. Such is the level of my commitment to the story of our PW.
But some players will do anything, no matter how OOC it may be, to keep their character alive, because they are power-gaming hard and trying to 'win' ALFA.
While nothing can really be done about this, IMO, the presence of real CvC ALSO keeps those players from metagaming knowledge of their own CvC infallibility and saying whatever they like with no regard for real IC consequences. CvC is, IMO, a necessary and part of the game for this reason alone.
For the record, that time with the Red Wizard is my *only* actual CvC in ALFA.

If we could post calmly i'd want the thread to continue. But a lock is probably best. I don't want to argue.
But, to ban CvC entirely will also of course open a flood gate for the possibility of players who then might act "too antagonistically" since they know that CvC is banned... I just come from the "just a game" camp and want everyone to not feel the stomach cringe of being taken out by another PC. I do realize fully that saying "just a game" also should be taken into account that we can lose PCs in it at the same time, so to be ready for that possibility.
Again, just want to talk. If we disagree, I accept that and always value everyone's opinions, and would just like to discuss it. But thinkpig you mentioned you never want to talk about it ever again, so no need to reply if you do not want to, I would understand of course no worries no worries. After reading my initial post a dozen times, I still think it was not something antagonistic, at least I didn't plan it that way at all with no one targeted at all. I am most sorry for making anyone relive any bad feelings. I am sorry.
I really and sincerely disagree with this. Meta knowledge does cause for situations that definitely change CvC for some (many?), and I know it does not for you thinkpig and that is great, I really feel the same way believe it or not, I gotta play my character as best I know him. But if for me or others meta-knowledge affects any actions at all, then there is a brutal problem we can never fix. People can always RP that their PC acted IC, when they do not initiate a CvC with someone they know OOC would kill them even with just cause.Castano wrote:I think we still need to end CvC in ALFA -

I was not aware that HDMs can overrule the ALFA Charter as Castano is, though I respect his decision regardless of its adherence to the charter and the CvC situation with Tam Why was not on his server.

Ok, this thread is done. Questions, comments? Contact the aforementioned.
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.
