Re: My next Forgotten Realms reading material
I like my low-effor-requiring FR reading. It is easy after a long day and I get the added benefit of consider it prep work for ALFA as my knowledge of canon improves.

Re: My next Forgotten Realms reading material
That is definitely true, that reading FR books can be sort of 'doing homework' for ALFA RP.dergon darkhelm wrote:I like my low-effor-requiring FR reading. It is easy after a long day and I get the added benefit of consider it prep work for ALFA as my knowledge of canon improves.

But it's a double edged sword... there have been times I've read something and get inspired to RP my butt off, and other times I find something so mediocre that I find myself embarrassed and saying, 'Eh, it's just a stupid game after all...'

Formerly: Aglaril Shaelara, Faerun's unlikeliest Bladesinger
Current main: Ky - something
It’s not the critic who counts...The credit belongs to the man who actually is in the arena, who strives violently, who errs and comes up short again and again...who if he wins, knows the triumph of high achievement, but who if he fails, fails while daring greatly.-T. Roosevelt

That's a very improtant point, one I should quantify with the following:Ithildur wrote:But it's a double edged sword... there have been times I've read something and get inspired to RP my butt off, and other times I find something so mediocre that I find myself embarrassed and saying, 'Eh, it's just a stupid game after all...'
Do not, for the love of GOD, read any FR novels by Philip Athans.

Re: My next Forgotten Realms reading material
Well, after 2.5 years I have finished 13 books of the Sembia series through the Erevis Cale ending. Kind of sad to say goodbye to characters at the end of that nice long read.
I suppose it is on to the Moonshaes series now.....might as well bolster my canon

Dergon, if you've not read them, I recommend the House of Serpents Trilogy. Very good!

Novels are surprisingly good for FR books.

Told you. As I said, nothing great, a little bit emo but good for FR novels.dergon darkhelm wrote:Vendrin wrote:Haunted Lands Trilogy by Richard Lee Byers. Deals with Thay, and the Lich Szazz Tam taking over it.

Would get off FR now though as most of that is going to be 4E which has little relevance to ALFA now. You want easy reading, go for Jim Butcher's Codex Alera or Dresden Files. Fun, easy and much better reading then FR. ((note on Alera: First book starts slow as it's world building, but rest of the series is amazing.))

Re: My next Forgotten Realms reading material
A bit of a slow start for my reading...always hard with brand new characters.....but will get there eventually.

Moonshea trilogy as fun, nothing special but a good read. I also like the pools and finder series, I think I might pull those ones out and read them again, it's been awhile

I really did NOT like Pools of Radiance...
Apprentice wizard who get //ring of three wishes\ by her master , and accidentally use TWO OF THEM because she is dumb, was a bit too much for me...
If you want decent, non crazy stuff try the following:
Twilight Falling
Azure Bonds

Re: My next Forgotten Realms reading material
Moonshaes Trilogy is very old, and I think retconned to pieces due to its age.
It was kind of the launch of FR anyhow, it wasn't written for FR, it was for some British version of Dragonlance. Notice how it's a bunch of islands with Celtic stuff, gee wonder what market that was for? That and generic god / goddess names that had to eventually be "oh yeah I guess we meant Chauntea... and uh, Tempus... and uh, Malar", etc.
Still, it was candy floss like any of these novels is going to be. Fun, but not "nourishing"

hmmm, it was a LONG time ago when I read them... still I thought they were ok at the time. Nothing major or awesome like the Icewind Dale trilogy.rorax wrote:I really did NOT like Pools of Radiance...

my all time favorite is the Dragonlance series but not really relevant here
