You can have a toast, I'm leaving

Post by maralten »

Hey, how's it going? So yeah, I'm retiring Lester. As a final act, I will do something terribly stupid with all of Lester's wealth: build a gate at Fourthpeak or something so the quest giver doesn't die so much.

Well, bye!

Thanks for swinging by to check us out. Hope you find a platform that you can settle into and enjoy! I'll mark you off of the To Forge list. :)

Well, that sucks. I really liked your roleplay, myself. I agree that it's important to remember that it's a game and the players are people of their own. Have fun with whatever you do next.

Instead of doing something stupid with the wealth, give it to me!

P.S. I don't actually have a character.

I am still not sure what prompted your rapid retirement but if there is anything I can do to help, I would be glad to.

For example if other players are harassing to you or you don't feel your contributions are being respected, I as a dm am interested in hearing your viewpoints.

The events leading up to your leaving are still a mystery to me. I felt I was very clear to the other players at the time that I supported Lester and to roll back their meta conclusions. I am very sorry if you felt you were'nt supported enough. Dms are human too and we need time to regroup and recapitulate as well.

As you might've seen, Alfa is a place where people who squeak a great deal, get attention. HOW you "squeak up" to the powers that be will result in how you are treated as a player. Thus in the process of getting your needs met and heard, even if your character is cantankerous or just plain evil, you still have to play things strictly lawful and polite.

I do however want to know when an issue comes up, either players harassing players, people ignoring a DM's ruling, or when you feel so fed up, you want to quit. I find that IRC is a good place to find us DMs (that use it) and vent if needed.

I'll second that, Maralten...I enjoyed Lester and only regret I didn't get enough gametime to harass him more. Please PM me if there's anything you'd like to discuss, if not, I hope you return when you have more time and inclination to play.

Facts:
Your perceptions are truly your own.

Nobody plays under the same perceptions or presumptions that you do.

Dm's manage the interactions of players as best they can.

Dm's aren't mind readers and have no predisposed disposition to ESP, Telepathy or other means of mental reading.

Your playing space resides within the space between your ears and it is up to you to make the most of it.

The letters, numbers and overall script of this enviroment in no way impact your overall well being.

Pc's apart from yourself add to the enviroment and do not detract from your experience.

Regardless of what anyone else does it is your own actions which define self.

In all, there is no one but yourself that can define happiness and if you can find it elsewhere than you should pursue it.

In summary.... no matter who you are or what you do, your actions are your own. Nobody can take responsibility for your decisions but yourself. When you look into the mirror happiness can only be determined by the perceptions of those who view the glass. When you look into the mirror all you can see is yourself. This stands true for you and those who would also deign to look into the mirror. Their own vision is blinded by self. Do not decry them their perceptions as they will surely not see the same as you.

All that glitters is not gold. Do not think that the reflections of light perused through a narrow vision encompass all that is and ever will be. The reflection of light is vast and ever changing. All one needs do is step aside no matter the direction and the perception of what was will change forever more. No opinion is static so long as one moves within the confines of space and time.

Maralten... My personal message to you is this... You have added much to the experience of those you've touched through your interaction. Recently your interactions have not mirrored your expectations... However, your exploration of the differences between your expectations and the reality of the reaction to your actions should not detract from your role play but enhance it. Moreover you should allow the exploration of the meaning of your actions to take their course. Those that are charged with the integrity of the game by the rules that have been established by a heretofore solid gaming experience have the benefit of the rule of law in this matter. So what?!! I'm dead and am risen. That's the game.

Death is but a window to another life. Loss is but an opportunity to gain wealth in comparison to relative worth. Nothing that is gained through the reflection of this program will be sustained except perhaps the fun I had playing it.

very insightful post DCJ

Maralten, I hope you'll consider coming back in the future, as I said, while IC Elen and Lester weren't best budies, there was no ill will there either.

Good luck to you :)

I wasn't gonna say anything, but this is just comedy gold, since I'm pretty sure your thinly veiled accusations of power-gaming, saturated with "old-guard" smugness, were a pretty big factor in me getting fed up with all this, and don't be all surprised if more players leave if you keep doing the same, since it seems like a habit to you (I know of at least two other people who got the same warm reception). In any case, I leave you to enjoy your stagnant elf-clique roleplay.

Pity to see people incited to this; Maralten, I'd suggest speaking constructively with someone in a position of power (one of the ARs for example) rather than venting anger on forums.

In any case, locking.
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.
