ooh. Seems rather awsome!

Im guessing it makes zero use of skills however which could be an issue?

Personally I'd be fine with ridable horses without checks unless a DM comes on and makes the player roll. They'd be a great bit of fun and an RP tool, they wouldn't give any benefits for riding combat or the like so I don't think they have much effect on our game or the rules other than RP colour.

Would be great to see in game

Given the setting, I find highly unlikely that ADVENTURERS can't ride a horse properly. Now riding a horse into combat (or doing something really fancy, like jumping over a cliff) is completely different thing. That's where checks come into play. If there's no horseback combat, there's hardly any need for ride checks.

By my understanding, what's being (been?) developed is the animations/dynamic models necessary to make the visual component of horseback riding work; something we've been previously unable to do with NWN2. Once these are available, ALFA will be free to tie them into our previous NWN1-developed riding scripts, which do take skill ranks into account.

To answer some questions above, based on our NWN1 horse scripts:
-No skill ranks are required to mount and ride a horse
-Skill checks /are/ required to ride without using hands (two-handed weapon or weapon and shield equipped)
-Skills checks /are/ required to manage a horse in combat
-Horses attacked while not being ridden can be killed, and will die permanently
-Horses will be persistent objects, so you need to remember where you left yours
-Horses can be renamed

I suspect there will be no easy way to handle PnP options like allowing the horse to get kick attacks in during combat, as the horse does not technically exist as a creature object once mounted; it effectively becomes an item "worn" by the PC. Still, I thought the horse scripts in NWN1-ALFA added a lot to the game, and look forward to when we can implement these for NWN2.

Note also: the adaption of our NWN1-scripts to the new NWN2 horses (once available) will likely take a while- so be patient. ;)

The NWN 1 horse scripts were an excellent piece of work, they were fun, easy, rewarded skill spending and did not cause balancing concerns.

I don't think Trolls would be amenable to being ridden, Hateface.
