Just a general warning about this. Party Manipulation for the gain of XP is not allowed. This is a case of abusing the system and will be held accountable as such.
If your PC is participating in the combat with the rest of the party, it should be in-party. If the PC is following along as a non-combatant, it may seem reasonable to stay de-partied to avoid soaking up XP for everyone else's hard work. The problem comes when players try to game the system (EXPLOIT) to get certain PCs more XP than they would otherwise be entitled to.
For those who wish for more details, Party Manipulation when done to get around the XP system, comes in conflict with section 2.2 and 2.6 of the Rulebook (Cheating and Powergaming respectively).
