Calling DnD Nerds: NWN2 Non-Canon Spells?
Hi folks;
Trying to identify spells which are in the ALFA NWN2 experience, not according to Canon. For those of you whom play spellcasters (priests, wizards, sorcs, bards, whatever) in ALFA NWN2, could you please help me identify which spells currently differ from canon? Please check the list below, and if you know of a spell that doesn't work like canon (wrong duration, wrong range, wrong area of effect, wrong spell effect) please post below, along with how the spell differs from canon.
Note: This thread is a discussion of existing spells, not a discussion of spells that could be added. Please post with any differences you have personally seen that are not in the list below.
Note: This thread is not to debate the merits, power, uberness, or uselessness of any given spell. It is only to identify spells which differ from canon effects.
NOTE: Low level spells are used by the most people, so I am especially interested in spells in ascending level. IE level 0, then level 1, then level 2, etc, as these are likely to be more used in ALFA.
Current list of identified spells that have been corrected:
Acid Splash
Barkskin
Bless
Cause Fear
Charm Person
Cure Minor Wounds
Daze
Dispel Magic
Expeditious Retreat
Fear
Haste
Magic Missile
Melf's Acid Arrow
Lesser Dispel
Ray of Enfeeblement
Ray of Frost
Scare
Scorching Ray

What sort of canon are we drawing from? Just the 3.5 PHB and FRCS?

For modifications to existing spells, whatever source book they come from. Almost all spells come from 3.5 PHB and FRCS, but srd is a great place to find what they should be:Kalrenath wrote:What sort of canon are we drawing from? Just the 3.5 PHB and FRCS?

Acid Fog (range, saving throw)
Acid Splash (range)
Aid (class)
Amplify (doesn't exist)
...
True Strike (component)
...
Word of Faith (doesn't exist)
And so on, and so forth. Putting the aforementioned http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/spells.htm and http://nwn2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Spells next to each other is depressing indeed.

Re: Calling DnD Nerds: NWN2 Non-Canon Spells?
Wouldn't it be a good idea to pilfer one of the "spell fixes" from the vault instead of doing it all in-house?
Re: Calling DnD Nerds: NWN2 Non-Canon Spells?
I've already examined the available spell packages there, and lifted some ideas from them. Most do too much or too little, I'm mainly concerned with the ALFA experience, and modifying and testing spells people actually have seen to be a problem.hollyfant wrote:Wouldn't it be a good idea to pilfer one of the "spell fixes" from the vault instead of doing it all in-house?

Also please note this thread is for spell fixes only, not new spells.

Do you think it would be possible to publish your version on the vault? Or would it be dependent on too many ALFA thingys?Riotnrrd wrote:I've already examined the available spell packages there, and lifted some ideas from them. It might be worthwhile to hold off on this until patch 1.22 is officially released and installed. The beta version has been out for about three weeks, and it includes a sizable number of rpgplayer1's spell fixes. Whether these changes will conflict with your scheduled fixes is something you're better qualified to answer.
The patch notes are here:
http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/vi ... &forum=109
At minimum, you can check if any of your fixes are already scheduled for official inclusion.

Patch has been investigated, but thank you!
Re: Calling DnD Nerds: NWN2 Non-Canon Spells?
Can you please be more specific? There's a 3.5 spell called Greater Invisibility. Definition of which is found here:gribo wrote:Improved invisibility

per the SRD: The spell is not dispelled after an attack. In NWN2, the object is no longer invisible after an attack, but has 50% concealment.
