What drew me in ALFA in first place was the idea of being able to be in Forgotten Realms.
I had an ideal start, too. My elf ranger fitted in the group that was just forming in TLR and I got welcomed in immediately. Lots of fun times followed, think I logged in pretty much everyday just to share the latest bit of rumor and, well, just rp. There was 80% chance of getting a DM logging in and doing funky stuff or advancing current plotlines. The world felt very alive. Of course, at the time it was ideal, too, because 3 of these DM´s shared my timezone.
It was a blissful 4-6 months or so including the horrible death of my first char in Sword Mountains, but I had lots of fun with the following dwarf, too.
When the dwarf kicked the dust I decided to join this great crew to DM and had fun for a while, too. At this time I used to DM 3-4 times a week and my approach was excactly what has been debated on above; a Big event happening. Tried to give everyone a bit of the candy, but in the end there were few key people organizing things and I felt that was excactly what should have happened. Sadly, at the end of things my times started to dwindle, people felt disappointed and I didn´t get to finish nearly all of the nuances of things I wished I could.
For two years now I´ve been doing pretty much same thing in Sembia, starting a story small and growing large. With an exception of it having withdrawn to scheduled sessions. It is more convenient to me now to have one session a week, for which I can think and prepare, but I admit I miss those "carefree" times.
