Beta RSS of server population

Post by Hialmar »

If you want you can try (and help me to debug) a beta RSS of the server population for all our servers.

The link is available at the top of the server description page that you can see when you click on the name of a server in the server list (World menu, Game Servers).

For example, for TSM it is here:
http://www.alandfaraway.org/poprss.php?id=36
For Northern Cormyr it is here:
http://www.alandfaraway.org/poprss.php?id=5
...

I couldn't update the OAS1, Moonshaes and Sembia IP addresses so it won't work for those servers.

If you can post the IPs here I'll update them.

The RSS doesn't work in thunderbird for an unknown reason that I'll try to solve.
If you have knowledge about RSS I'm interested if you can explain me why.

Thanks to White Warlock for finding the GameSpy PHP code and to Demson for the idea.

Thank you for your great work, Hialmar! I appreciate it. My server is not in beta yet, but will be, hopefully soon. If you need me to test it out, I will.

That is so cool! How do we help you test it? I've put it on my google home page to monitor it. Is that all you need?

I've got the RSS Feed on my Google Reader. When I added it, I had 10 messages, and they each said, "Silver Marches had X players." where X was anything between 0 and 3.

Anything else?

Be sure to let your RSS reader check regurly for updates. Mine is set at each 5 minutes. If the amount of player changes, I am send a message with the server status.

I was just able to bushwhack an OAS2 applicant because of this. It's a great help.

Does it only go to three?

That's it for TSM? 7 players at once? Probably scattered everywhere lookking for others. Evidence enough that ALFA is dying unless you make some big changes, like firing all the standards people who keep pissing off everyone with their imperialism and making it attractive for the builders to make lots of statics instead of chasing them away.

And 0 for the NWN1 server.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see the sevens and fours. Sorry. I hear ten is the max but let's push it to 11 for that little bit extra.

You just have to put your server's IP address and port in the "My servers" interface (under the Members menu) and it should work.

Tell me if you can't access the "My servers" interface.

Your sentiments do not inspire me to build anything for you.

And for the record, we had a lovely action packed session with a 6 person party on TSM last night in a dog (GMT +10) timezone and I don't think I'm alone when I say I had a great time.

Less whinging more proactivity k thx.
