GUIs and add-ons

Post by White Warlock »

Soon as i fix my hardware/software issues, i intend on testing out various GUIs and add-ons (for players), then post my recommendations, plus screenshots of settings. If others have committed to this in the past, i see no reason to repeat the actions. If not, but you have recommendations, by all means post here. Later we can summarize the information presented here and add it to the New Players section.

Good initiative, Whitey! Look forward to seeing what you find.

I use SlimGUI 1.6.

Since the server doesn't run it, some of the special features like the extended hotbar and warlock buddy do not function. It is still worthwhile for the cleaner interface.

ALFA's custom UI, included with the haks, includes a number of essential custom elements which third-party UI mods may interfere with. As such, I don't recommend using any UI overrides for playing on ALFA servers.

Aye AL, that's one of the reasons why i'm thinking of the testing, to see what, if anything, is hampered.

Btw, there's one particular change to the appearance.2da that i would really like added to ALFA's modifications. It raises the camera height so when you're FPS, you don't see the back of your character, but instead see the scene in front of you, and just the tip of the top of your character's head. Is this doable to add to ALFA, or should i consider modifying my appearance.2da and shoving it into the override? I.e., has ALFA made any changes to appearance.2da that i should be concerned about?

Okay, answered my own question. Seems within the hak you have the appearance.2da to ensure people don't modify it locally. I have a request on this issue, but will post it in the other forum section. Back to crashing my system. hehe

Found out how to get the SlimGUI extended hotbar working on ALFA.
  • Go to My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\ui\custom\sliders.
  • Find these files and back them up:
    • hotbar.xml
    • hotbar_011232.xml
    • hotbar_011240.xml
    • hotbar_012432.xml
    • hotbar_012440.xml
    • hotbar_021232.xml
    • hotbar_021240.xml
    • hotbar_022032.xml
    • hotbar_022040.xml
  • Delete all of the above save one of the numbered files
  • Rename the remaining one to "hotbar.xml"
