OAS2 MIA?

Post by Teric neDhalir »

Hi,
I've posted in the OAS2 forum and in the admissions forum, but got no reply. Is the OAS2 running or not? Or if it is is it on a different IP address to the one advertised?
Thanks,
Teric

I have been unable to find it either Teric. No one has been able to tell me what happened.

I switched routers and have asked a few times in chat if anyone could check to see if it was up. No answers. So, I looked at the screen every now and then and saw someone on. So I thought it was working fine.

Tonight, I read the posts, checked and my IP is different. Go figure, and I forgot some ports. So, one more issue presented itself. The name, "ALFA NWN2 Open Application Server" was too long for Gamespy, and it would come up blank. So, I changed the name to "ALFA NWN2 OAS2" and it now shows up properly.

Woo!

On a side note, I am still looking for someone else to host the OAS2. I want to open up The Frozen North for beta, but can't because my machine is in use.

For time being, I've taken over hosting of OAS2, at 24.10.118.145 - standard port (5121).

Still looking for a longerterm hosting solution for it, just less urgently, since my connection should be OK for a while.

Nope there are no DS like options for NWN2.

The main problem being that NWN2 servers require a lot of memory and CPU power and that there is still no Linux version of the server.

We thought about renting a dedicated server but the cost is about $175 a month so it's not a really interesting option.

Of course if you want to donate about $1300 then I suppose we can buy a new computer and have it hosted by one of ALFA hosters ;)

Do you need "NWN2" in the name? Isn't that redundant? Do NWN1 servers show up on the NWN2 client as well such that the distinction would be needed?
