Self-nominations for Lead Administrator are now closed.

Post by kmj2587 »

With Rotku's unfortunate resignation, a new lead has to be elected. The self-nomination period will last for one week.

Since a new Lead Admin was due to be elected in December, and it is now mid-November, the successful candidate will serve the next full term, lasting until June 2008.

Please do not post in this thread unless you are self-nominating.

I'll run for it.

Yep, I know I ain't the most popular, but my goal is to cut the bulllshit and get ALFA back to where we were, starting with one of the best NWN2 servers there will be.

That said, my primary use of ALFA time will still be building NWN2 Silver Marches, with a beta 2 goal (that is the majority if not all interiors done) by Christmas. Then beta 3 by Jan/Feb (completing all NPC dialogs and quests and bug fixing).

Since I am on the boards anyway, I can do some admin.

My platform is as follows:

1. Dead Horses and new issues: I believe in democracy to the point of the integrity of ALFA. So, major policy issues will be voted on by an ALFA wide poll, with the majority 50+1. Once the issue is resolved by majority, that's it, no more threads or disccussion for a year. Threads and results of the decisions will be archived and date-stamped. So, any sore losers bitching on the forums will have their threads removed. Majority rules, take it or leave.

1a: That said, there will be a new forum separate from the general forums and for membership only called "Thoughts, Concerns and Constructive Criticism" You can bitch there and it will, I repeat, will be heavily moderated, by me if necessary. However, I would hope the discussions would be for the betterment of ALFA. Note: Constructive Criticism. General forum will be for all to see, with a nice sticky for screenshots and advertising stuff.

2. NWN1 and NWN2: NWN1 continue on as long as players want it, regardless of how many NWN2 servers there are. Two separate platforms, but one community. 1 PC, however, per platform. NWN2, I am coordinating the farthest server along to go to live, and I continue to do it. More servers other than the ones proposed are welcome (see below).

3. Server proposals: This process will be thrown out and replaced by a vote from all 5 admins on new servers with a brief server statement of intent (1 or 2 pages of a simplied summary). This will make it easier for builders with real experience to put in a proposal, hopefully attracting back the builders we chased away.

I get along with all the admin professionally and generally am agreeable to whatever needs to be done for ALFA, however, I've been around this community a long time, and I am old school from the beginning.

This community has chased out too many people that have tried their best in an difficult position because of constant bickering and bitching. Under my lead, that will stop, and I will boot people that are the instigators: permanently.

Oh, my back ground, most of you know me, college professor, software engineer for Sikorsky, Litten, Nortel, IBM, US/Canadian Army, US/Canadian Air Force, infantry platoon leader, Scout Leader, writer, historical researcher, and now, first and formost, an elementary school teacher :)

And one final note: remember, this is a game/hobby. Let's make it fun.

edit: Ammended platform.

I am entering the election as a candidate for Lead Admin.

ALFA is about to embark upon a new journey as a NWN2 world. I feel that my strengths lie in communication, public relations and diplomacy and that these are strengths that could better the journey.

I look around and I see a community that has held together through thick and thin, through RP feast and platform famine. I see a steady, diehard player base ready to grow back into the chaotic, contentious, creative community that comes with new places to meet and interact. I see hard workers building NWN2 and I see loyalists keeping NWN alive. I see a dream team of Admin. I figure that with Hialmar shaping the hull, Cipher's team hoisting the rigging, Mik & Co. manning the ship and Rusty's team building the mainland, one of the few things we need is a figurehead to point the way. That, PR and experience are what I would bring to the position.

In my years in ALFA I have been PR, Lead PR, PA and LA. One of the things I'm still proudest of is the ALFA Player's Manual, not because I wrote much of it, but because it was a creative effort that came out of the hard, hard work of so many writers, illustrators and other artists. As LA in my previous term, I spearheaded the drive to get a plan in place for NWN2. I see that plan growing, changing, adapting and keeping pace with our needs today and I am very, very happy. I'm pleased that others have taken ownership of the initial plan and made it a living chart for ALFA's future.

I have already contacted Rick as a courtesy, and wished him the best of luck in the election. Should he be elected, it is because he deserves to sit in the LA seat. His dedication to ALFA and his willingness to do what needs to be done have earned my respect. I enter the race, though, because I feel that the communication skills I bring to the position are what ALFA needs in these coming months.

Thank you for reading. My weekends are usually family time, but I'll make some time this weekend to answer questions, and probably spend Monday catching up with those I miss.

ALFA abides.
Enjoy the game
