Need Help With NWN2

Post by Regas »

Some time ago I DLed a custom plug in to NWN2. It's a re-skin of the UI that makes things look like the old Balder's Gate interface. It's very nice, but since the last official update, my saved OC crashed upon load. I have real trouble in the multi player version as it seems to limit some of the tools, like chat function from the player list, barter function, and the lower left eye is completely gone. Now I've tried both deleting everything in the override file and a complete uninstall/ reinstall, including erasing the game files. The darn code is tougher then a regenerating haste bear, I can't see to get rid of it.

The documentation is very poor on the custom content, in retrospect maybe not so bright to have added it. I've posted for help on the vault as well, where the file lives.

Any suggestions?

Regas: go into your My Documents folder- find the Neverwinter Nights 2 folder, and rename it. For example, to "NWN2_backup".

Then, pop in your NWN2 or MotB disk, and start up the game. It should open as normal (but working, back to defaults). When you exit out, you should have a brand-new and functional /Neverwinter Nights 2/ directory in there.

Then, you can move over whatever saved games, local characters, dm avatars, haks, and/or PWCs you want from the backed up directory, and delete it.

This should sort your problem- I suspect your old UI won't be an option to use anymore, but the creator may have updated it since.

As an aside, ALFA's NWN2 servers will use a UI based in the haks, so may conflict with thirdparty UIs anyway.

Let me know if this trick fails to sort out your problem, though.

Hi AL,

I found a full set of files under program files.. Atari... nwn2 ...

the override file there was populated.

I deleted everything in the override file and I'm now back to the original UI.

I also have a full set of files in two other locations, one under my documents, and another under a seperate user file's documents (one the default the other my personal files)

Will these dups be a problem, and how do i tell the uninstall macro which ones to remove if they are?

Thanks,

Regas

Basically, the way the game works, the "main" install files live in /program files/atari/neverwinternights2/ - and those aren't meant to be tampered with, generally.

The copies of things in your documents folder are the "working copies"- that's where the haks, pwc, nwn2player.ini settings, etc should go (including overrides, if you need them). That way, if things go horribly wrong, you can regenerate the folder without reinstalling the game.

The UI you installed before may have been from before the creator had a good handle on how the system was intended to work- generally you don't want to put much in the /program files/ path (other than toolset resources in the /NWN2Toolset or /NWN2Toolset_X1 folders).
