Public Relations Call Out

Post by Rotku »

And another one bites the dust.

Once again, I find myself standing here seeking someone else to head ALFA's Public Relations front. For anyone wishing to give ALFA a helping hand, yet don't have the resources (time/skill/technology) to help out getting NWN2 servers built, this is a great way to volunteer!

So what does it involve?
  • Co-ordinating ALFA's NWVault, NWN Connections and other such pages;
  • Keeping up-to-date ALFA's new MySpace page;
  • Having a neat little forum title saying "Staff Head - Public Relations", or something nifty like that;
  • Working with Rotku (seriously, what more can you want?);
  • The occasional post in other communities, attracting members to ALFA;
  • Having hordes of staff under your command, carrying out your every whim (conditions apply);
  • What ever other cunning plans you (or other community members) may come up with; and last but not least
  • Great, flexable hours!
The limits of what can be done here are really only the limits of your own imagination! Previous PR Heads have done great works like getting ALFA related videos shown throughout the NWN community and setting up an ALFA MySpace page.

And as an extra special something, the Website Team and our Infra Admin are currently working on a special something which should allow us to carry out a bit of market research to allow us to focus our PR work more. Something which I'll certainly need some help fine tuning, once it's ready.

Do you have what it takes?

Rot, what do you think of simply canning this role?

Do a quick survey to see who, if anyone, found out about ALFA due to some PR advertisement. In my experience of the broader NWN community, advertising has never played a role in determining who does what.

People in the NWN community are generally just waiting to climb on board something worth it. When we've got something worth it, the word spreads because people start talking.

So for me, I'd rather have only the sort of person come looking for us that has heard a good report and wants to learn more. There's nothing worse, in my opinion, than an advertisement for a place that doesn't have anything much to offer prospective players. It just looks like desperation.

So our NWN2 servers are going to be going live soon, and the word of mouth from the players enjoying their game is the best, and only, advertising we need.

I could do it I suppose....

With the understanding that between wife, work, and school, the job can't have top priority for me.

It would be an interesting challenge though:)

I don't think we need to sell people on the project, indio, but we should advertise so people know we're around. All the NWN2 PWs I've tried, I tried because of advertising--specifically the PW spotlights that Obsidian does. We need advertising but we don't need marketing.

Fair point. I also check out the Obsidian Spotlight worlds. I guess I'm hesitant to start advertising until we've really got something people can get their teeth in to. The thing about the spotlight I suppose is that those projects are up and running with live servers, or I think they are at least.

Yeah, once we have a server live, we should spread the word and get a spotlight. I don't think anyone's arguing to advertise us before we have anything to show.

One thing about the Myspace page, FYI....if you dont check on it every so many days your going to have a ton of friends wanting adds on the list. Some are bogus and some are real folks. You need to try and at least check the site and deal with the requests and stuff once a week or so. Otherwise, your going to have a ton of things backed up.
